    need help remembering T-rex model

    Hiya folks.

Trying to scrape the dust and cobwebs off of another kid memory.

Somewhere in the mid/late 70s I put together a large T Rex kit. I recall it was about 1 1/2 to 2 feet high, somewhat articulated, cast in red plastic, and had glow in the dark teeth.

Anyone know who made this kit?

    thanks

That would be the T-Rex produced by Aurora. I have one complete kit in my stash. Those things sell for a pretty penny these days.

There are currently some reproduction Prehistoric Scenes kits in stores, but not the T-Rex. That sites has a link to current stuff with the current kits listed.

Revel Germany reissued it back in the 90's and I'm hoping it gets reissued again 'cos I need another one. Revel issued it back in the 80's a few times, so you can usually find a good "building" one for around $50-$75.

But the red one is the original Aurora one and they tend to be expensive, especially if you've got the paperwork with it.

            That would be the one.
Many a battle was waged with my heroes and this monster devoured playmobil peoples for lunchtime games. I recall having to find the teeth and claws on several occasions. I am sure some were permanently awol after a while. He served a rather long tenure in my playbox. Can't remember if a garage sale or trash can took him. Probably the trash due to the missing parts.

Thanks for the memories and the cool links.

You too?!?!? I think the Aurora dinos are one of the greatest things ever made. Great to build, somewhat edumacational, AND they could eat Playmobil/Star Wars/GI Joe RAH guys! I used to love wandering into any given hobby shop and seeing shelves filled with them mmm-mmm good painted boxes!

My T-Rex is a reissue, and was painted green like the box; hence my wanting another to do red, like the Aurora one. (PS: The teeth and eyes of the Aurora one glow in the dark, too. I did not know this!)

                Hiya ctc,

Yep, glow eyes, teeth, fingers, and toes. I used to sit under a blanket with one of those giant square camping flashlights to glow up the teeth and claws. Then I would sneek into my sisters room wiggling the head around and making crunching noises.

                Ahhh. good times.

This is most probably why I was not allowed to pick up the Alien doll from Kenner.

Here is my thread I posted here a while back.
My Aurora Prehistoric Scenes models - Mego Talk

My T-rex is the last green issue I picked up a few years for $24 off eBay, you can get luckey and get them off eBay for as low as $20-25.

Since I have taken these pics in Oct. I have now gotten all 17 kits now and I'm 4 away from building them all.
This is a great and classic series.
