    Groovie Goolies find...

The Groovie Goolies were always a favorite cartoon of mine in the late 70's. Fans of that era will probably remember the PVC figures that were a staple item at corner drug stores through the duration of the cartoon's run. But with the dawn of the 80's, these figures all but disappeared. I guess many were misplaced, thrown away, or simply judged undesirable by those cleaning out their attics. Whatever the reason, these figures have become extremely difficult to find and only seldom appear on Ebay. They were so rare and so pricey that I resigned myself to the idea that a complete or even partial set would be a stretch to ever obtain. The primary figures (Wolfie, Frankie, and Drac) fetch a descent amount by themselves. Usually $30 and up for each figure. Anyway my family and I were wandering through the many isles of one of those flea market-style stores which sale second hand items (displayed usually in glass cases for the most part). When we reached the last case, I noticed a small plastic bag that contained many PVC figures. Upon closer examination, my eyes all but popped out of my head as I realized I was looking at every figure from this rare series. I desperately looked for a price and there it sat in very small type on top of the baggie - $35... FOR THE COMPLETE SET!!! In all of my years, I have NEVER seen anyone who could even display the entire set, let alone offer them all for sale. I couldn't believe it and shook my head all the way home. My wife is still shaking hers...

At this moment I have one extra Frankie. He was the only I had until this find.

NICE! I never knew they existed until the mid 80's when I found Mummy at an antique shop in a box. I had also thought that perhpas it was a playing piece from a game. Was not until years later when I leanred they made pvc figures from the groovie ghoulies.

                            Super nice find!

Wow, what a find! I didn't know these existed either. I'd been all over them as a young kid. Loved the Goolies. I only have vauge memories of it now. I really need to find that DVD set. I understand some Wal-Marts have it for $5. I don't imagine there is much merchandise made from this show, right?
