I always wanted that Snoopy pencil sharpener. I guess I need to make a trip over to ebay.

Masons was a small chain in the Northeast mostly PA, NY. NJ. They were different in that the chain was a franchise , sort of like McDonalds, each store having it's individual owner who licensed the name, etc. We had one when I was a little kid in Altoona, PA....they closed up in the late seventies, most of them became Value City stores (also now currently closing the company filing bankruptcy).
I don't remember a whole lot of the store, other than it was low-cost, low-maintenance...open warehouse ceilings, leaky roofs, etc. A lot of buy-outs and such...the Big Lots of it's day.

I remember my mom buying me a Mighty Mouse sweatshirt there when I was really little.

I would pay full price for those SSP cars and the Aurora kits by the way. A bargain at $3.19!!

The Aurora Comic Scene Model Kits that came with comic books including:

TARZAN (art by Neal Adams)...The LONE RANGER...TONTO (both of those had Gil Kane art)...SPIDERMAN...HULK...BATMAN...ROBIN...SUPERMA N...SUPERBOY....& CAPTAIN AMERICA

The comics themselves book for about $5 in good to $30 in mint, the ones I named being the most sought after. I have seen the Spidey & Hulk ones at Toys 'r Us recently packaged in a two-pack with a one old comic and one recent comic - they were clearanced for $5.99.

SSPs were great fun. I made lots of dents in the baseboards with a purple pointy-nosed salt flats racer I had. The SSP smash-up derby set has to be one of the funnest toys ever. At least until the pop-off doors got lost.

SSP's were simply awesome. They worked fantastically and took A LOT of abuse. Anybody here collect these today? I wonder how they held up over the years. I've thought about picking some up off of ebay, but I'd only want ones I can play with. Ones I could continue to abuse.

I'm always looking on eBay for sets. I had several of these as a kid, the set I really want again now is the Smash Up Derby, which always goes for a lot of money on eBay.

I have the smash up derby and 4 other cars including one that I got for my 4th birthday in '71. Everything about them is great still. Rubber noses have stayed soft and the chrome ones haven't faded much at all. My kids love them, but they are too young in my opinion for the smash up derby ones, so I don't bring that one out.
                          It's all good!
