The 1981 Remco Catalog means Monsters

In 1981, Remco, a division of Azrak Hamway International for almost the past decade, went through some changes in their product line.

    .

Demand for many of the items that had been staples for the company such as Utility belts and powerzed Superheroes was starting to wane. All the Hulk merchandise and the Star Trek CSF sets of previous years were now gone.

    .

Instead, Remco began to expand with things like Crayon cosmetics for girls and by expanding upon their Universal Monster license with a new series of mini monsters and two new additions to the 9" series in the form of the Creature and the Phantom.

As an added bonus click on the Monster pages to see a full gallery of packaged figures and playsets.

From all the monster lines (AHI, Lincoln, Remco, Mego) Remco is by far my favorite. Their figures look great and they have such other cool monster toys too

For some reason, I never even saw the Remco Monster figures as a kid, or I surely would have bought some. I first found out about them when Tomart's action figure price guide came out. Great figures. I'm trying to put together a set of the 9" ones, then I'll probably go after the little ones too.

Like I've mentioned numerous times before, I never owned any Remco monsters, but I distinctly remember seeing the 9" figures at Dollar General. They were high up on some overhead shelves. I kind of wanted them, but I was a real weiner of a kid and the packaging enthralled me and scared me at the same time. Dracula looked insane.

A friend up the street had the mini-monsters and playset. What great toys. He didn't have Drac, so we used the Phantom, since we didn't know he was at the time. I had a lot of fun with those guys. I was very envious of him for having them. I think that's why I like the similar Burger King figures so much.

Seeing all of these cool monster toys over the past month is making me want to start collecting them in a big way. Yeah, that's what I need another line to start collecting. Maybe if I say it a few more times I'll start to believe it.

Cool line. I got the phantom 3 3/4, cann't remember if it is the glow in dark version. Remco made two versions for its 3 3/4 line. one glow in dark other did not. 12 figure total to collect, 6 in each version.
