Okay, so did Manglors really work or not? I remember seeing the commercials, and I also remember my Mom dissuading me from buying them, because she thought they wouldn't really go back together as advertised. I've read other things on them that stated the stuff did not quite go back together right or at all, and then I've read it worked like a charm. So Manglor owners, did it live up to the hype?

The concensus is, Manglors did not work.

As for 80's toys, yeah I was too old for much of them but I have to admit it was an awesome time to be a kid. Lots of high imagination lines that kids could actually play with.

I had one and it sort of worked. It'd go back together, but wouldn't stretch any more. The joins would give out under pressure.

And yeah; the D&D figures were surprisingly good; AND game accurate. If anyone has the Fortres of Fangs I'd love to see some pics. Especially from directly above. (I want an 8" custom one.)

Accuracy was the key to getting kids into Satanism. That and playing Hotel California backwards.

There were no good "fantasy" toy lines in the 80s...

Those figures ruined action figures as we knew them and turned them all into oversized, steroid enhanced looking figures... He-Man or Wrestlers, they all looked the same... That and the fact that most major toy lines had 1/2 commercials (aka a "TV series") on TV on a daily basis ruined the action figure market for good...

I know that a lot of older TV shows, comics, etc. had figures based on them, but it seems like they were made more due to actual popularity of the franchises... Those 80s cartoons were made with the sole intention of selling toys, and the toys weren't due to popularity of the franchise because they were "pre-sold" to a captive after school audience....

                        >He-Man or Wrestlers, they all looked the same...

Well.... to be fair, He-Man and the wrestlers were SUPPOSED to be oversized steroid enhanced dudes....

                        >Those 80s cartoons were made with the sole intention of selling toys, and the toys weren't due to popularity of the franchise because they were "pre-sold" to a captive after school audience....

They were EVENTUALLY; although you still had a lot of original ideas at the beginning and into the mid 80's. He-Man the toy came first, and the cartoon story was VERY different in the original mini-books that came with the toys. The D&D cartoon was NOTHING like the game (they didn't even have a cleric, and only TWO PEOPLE on the team had weapons....) and the figures were based on the game.

I have no problem with tie-ins, provided they're good. So the figures should be good figures, the show a good show, etc. By the mid 80's the Marvel/Hasbro/Sunbow formula had been perfected and quality sorta took a hike.

                        >Accuracy was the key to getting kids into Satanism.

The whole "D&D is EVIL" flap is how I learned to distrust authority; AND why I hate Geraldo Rivera.

That's the 80's I remember as a teen. We had a guy come to our church and do a seminar on backmasking. He played "Another one bites the dust" and "Stairway to Heaven" backwards for us. We were supposed to hear all about dope smoking and Satan calling us to a life of devil worship.

I never heard the messages that were supposed to be there...but my mother sure did. And all my albums were confiscated the next day. Except for Kool and the Gang

The Sectaurs were simply the coolest toys. I ended up owning the entire line of toys.
I think I have still have them all still in the packaging all boxed up in my parents attic in NH.
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

Most of the toys on the list were from my post-toys days. Although I did grab the Warlord series since it was one of my favorite comic books of the day. I also had a few of the Dragon Riders of the Styx figures which were vry cool. They also had bagged sets of figures and playsets in the "toy soldier" scale.

Just as a little FYI: Warlord at the time of the figures release was one of the 2 top selling DC titles of the time. The other was New Teen Titans.
