    Vintage Halloween Stores

Like all good Canadians, by the time you read this I'll either be immobile from eating my own weight in Turkey or drunk, most likely I'm both right now.

It's hard work making a pig out of yourself and/or ruining a holiday memory for everyone, so rather than blog about something new, I'm going to devote some time to some of the halloween related retro retail shots that I've collected over the years.

Above is a Lionel aisle of Halloween decorations from 1973, I was told on the forum that these are by a company called Beistle.

A shelf of Aurora Glow in the Dark Monster kits from 1975, it's an understatement to say I love Aurora figure kits. I even bought a bunch this year so the kids could paint and use them as our centerpiece.

A whole wall of rubber masks in a Cassler's store circa 1983, these things had such a distinctive smell. I used to just drool at displays like this.

Finally, a store window from 1982 and a shop called "Intellitoys", educational toy stores were always kind of a letdown, it looked like a toy store until you got inside and then it was too late!

My parents had that witch on the far left of the top photo. They hung it up every Halloween back in the 70's. I wish I could find one now.

Cool. I love old store displays of any kind. These being of Halloween goodies and monsters is just extra cool. BTW Happy Thanksgiving Day up there in Canada ( actually thought it was tomorrow).

I never saw any specialty shops, just local discount places and Woolworth's. I feel sorry for kids now, b/c even though those Ben Cooper/Collegeville costumes were cheesy, the selection was ENORMOUS! You could literally be anything, a cartoon character, TV personalities, superheroes, and of course witches, ghosts and ghouls. And I really miss those funny Halloween cardboard cutouts. My mom wasn't really big on Halloween, but I always saw them hanging up at school, and of course in Woolworth's. Mom always knew she was gonna have a tough time dragging me outta the store in October!

Remember back in the late 70's-early 80's when Circus World toy stores had a large display case in the front entrance full of Don Post latex masks, including the Star Wars and Star Trek ones?

I would just go in and drool at them, because they were all pretty pricey for a kid's allowance.

                  Sweet pics, thanks!
