    Jump-Alike

This is one of the few examples of dressing alike where it hurts both parties equally. I love the tagline that states "Casual Styles too smart to just stay at home" Yes, indeed show the world your matching jumpsuits and space age flip flops.

    DVD DAY

If you're Canadian and grew up in the seventies, chances are Canadian content laws had you watch at least one episode of The Starlost before. the series was supposed to be Canada's answer to Star Trek but thanks to some US backing falling through, ended up looking like a poor cousin to Doctor Who.

Starlost follows the adventures of three young people who grew up on an Amish farm only to discover they are really on a floating space ark, whose crew has been wiped out by a "Radiation Virus" (science boo-boos like this caused creator Harlan Ellison to disown the whole show) and they must explore the other communities in the ark hoping to find someone that can steer tham away from a collision course with a sun.

All in all, the actual premise of the series is very good, it's also well acted, it's just the execution that suffers a little. The series is shot on video and much of the effects are chroma key based, the writers also seemed to have pacing problems, the exciting music breaks in at times seeming almost as if it's being ironic. With the Canadian series available, one wonders if CTV's "The Trouble with Tracy" (worst sitcom ever to many) may see DVD release.

Also available are the second season of Adam 12 and the complete series of George Peppard in Banacek. For more Fashion Mockery and 70's toy love visit us at Plaid Stallions.com

Those jumpsuits look more like weird bathrobes with those sashes or belts or whatever they're suppose to be.

If the jumpsuits had their names on them then they'd look just like a gas station attendant back then. Fill'er up mister?

I'm a Canadian who grew up in the seventies and I have to admit that I've never even heard of "The Starlost". It sounds like a really interesting premise though, I wouldn't mind checking it out.

We had a TV, but I also had a sister with whom I had to share the TV much of the time, and this certainly sounds like a show she would have vetoed. It is odd that the show completely slipped under my radar though. What network was it on, CBC, CTV or indy channels like CHCH? You probably watched many of the same channels I did, given our geography, was it usually broadcast after school, on the weekends? I'm just trying to figure out how I missed it entirely.

AAhh, CHCH tv 11. That fuzzy channel from Hamilton that I used to try to watch sometimes growing up near Buffalo.
I believe that was the channel that played that odd cartoon that I never saw anyplace else. Was called TheWorld of Oz I think. "Oh the world of Oz is a very funny place where everyone wears a funnny, funny face. All the streets are paved with gold, and no-one evers grows old..."

and an animated show about The New Adventures of Pinnochio that I never saw anywhere else either. Sunday Morning I think.

Ah yes, I remember those Oz and Pinnochio shows too. I never saw those on any other channel than CHCH either. I'm not sure of the history of those shows or why they seem so obscure, time to do some research. (now I have that Oz cartoon theme song in my head, thanks for quoting the lyrics )

God, I loved Rusty the tin man's voice.

As for Starlost, it was a CTV show all the way.

Hehehe, Hey I've had that song in my head for the last 30+ years (or at least the bits I recall from it anyway) so it's a bout time I passed on the favor.

I think there was another odd cartoon that I just thought of as well that I only remember from that channel. I don't remember the name or the characters except for a frog who was kinda like a mobster and he talked like Edward G Robinson.

I found a site with the Wizard theme song and lyrics (lyrics had a couple words wrong so I edited)

They're three sad souls, Oh me, oh my,
No brains, no heart, He's much too shy.
                            But never mind you three,
Here's the Wizard as you can see.
He'll fix that one, two, three
In that funny place called the world of Oz.

Oh the world of Oz is a very, funny place
Where everyone wears a funny, funny face.
All the streets are paved with gold,
And no one ever grows old.
In that funny land lives the Wizard of Oz.

Thanks for the link, yeah I really missed hearing that song.
I found out a bit of info about the show, it's American made not Canadian, despite popular belief. And it originally aired in 1961 and was produced by a company that would become Rankin/Bass.

Oh yeah, I always liked Rusty the Tinman's voice too, I can still remember exactly how it sounds. It must have made a very distinctive impression, because I have no memory of what any of the other characters sounded like.
