    Copter Envy

Although I never had Vertibird or any of the licensed Remco CSF Copters, I lived vicariously through the kids who did. Does anybody remember a version of this you could play in an arcade? It was in a big dome and you had to hunt a UFO, this was pre Space Invaders obviously. I sometimes worry that I imagined it...

My cousin had one of these as a kid and I thought there was nothing else like it. I remember trying to trade him some colorform sets for his. He never did bite. A few years ago I finally picked up a Batman Remco version.

I had the one you could rescue the astronaut from the life raft and pick up the space capsule.

I remember playing with a display one in Grants dept store. It was a snoopys flying doghouse one.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
      Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

I got that one for Christmas in 1974 I think. It was pretty cool as I recall.

Never got one, but there was a working one on display in our local department stores (I can't remember witch one). I remember going in a couple times to play with it, but it was ultimately broken, left sitting on display just to tease me. I could go for one of these today. That's one cool toy!

I had 2 different ones. The first was a Fire Rescue like the one pictured above, but just alittle different. I played with it untill it wore out. My second was a Battlestar Galatica. That was pretty cool. I sold it for some good $$$ at the time. Boy, that was the time when they made some good toys.

Loved my Vertibird. Truly one of the greatest toys. I don't remember the rooftop rescue playset, but it looks cool. I also had the space capsule.

Never had one when they all first came out, 'course you had to track down the ones that did get one. I do remember finally buying a Star Trek one, later on after the big push was over, but it seem pretty disappointing.

The box art was actually better than the toy itself...

I had a yellow verti-bird with the cardboard burning building, victim, stretcher, and road blocks. A great toy...spent many hours with zippin' around in circles, until the two wires that spun the blades snapped clean off. I used to like taking it outside and doing liftoffs in the garden....the blowing sand made things seem somewhat more real.

Jasman toys came out with a copy of the verti-bird a few years back. I picked one up for old times sake, but it never seemed to have the same abilities (wouldnt fly as high, nor go as fast) as the classic one.
