    My Childhood Shogun Warrior Raydeen!

I just have to show this off, since I finally got around to taking a shot of it this past weekend. A personal gem in my collection...This is my childhood Shogun Warrior Raydeen:

Raydeen here is my authentic childhood buddy, so he's rather special to me. The only remotely restorative work other than cleaning done with him is a replacement (but original) chest missile, in a similar condition to the rest of him.

Purchased for me by my Grandma the first Christmas when the original trinity of them were available [Mazinga... Dragun... and Raydeen!"], so he's a "Type-1", I believe. I had so much fun with him at the neighborhood sand pile, and with my departed Shogun Godzilla & Rodan. Kenner's Death Star suffered mightily under assaults from Raydeen's firing fist!!!!

I've thought about restoration with new decals & such, but he doesn't look too bad considering the extensive childhood play he engaged in, so I've just cleaned him up with a bit of Kiwi plastic cleaner and display him in a less-sunny part of the bedroom. (Collette's giant Hello Kitty plushes are on the opposite side of the room, providing the appropriate toy funk-schwei.) I just dust him once in a while with a Simonize cloth to keep him shiny and reduce the scuffs.

That's wonderful, Ray, thanks for posting. Somewhere I have photos of getting my Mazinga at Christmas 77.

I dig the original 24" shoguns. I have Mazinga, desprately in need of some missiles, 1 sword and his brain ship. However he is my original from when I was a young fellow.
Also have a Godzilla. My dogs are scared of him. They think he's not right.

That is pretty cool Ray. I still have my Dragun from when I was a kid. My Grandmother gave him to me for Christmas that year. He's in bad shape, but I have all his parts and plan to put him in the shop for repairs when I get a chance.

          Thanks for postin'

Awesome Ray! I love me some Raydeen and Shoguns!

My first was Mazinga. MANY a battle with the Micronauts happened in my backyard and at friend's houses. My Mazinga and my friend's Raydeen collided in mid air once and Mazinga's leg snapped at the knee. I was devastated. My friend's Raydeen got damaged as well. The launcher for the fist broke where it attaches to the arm. My friend ended up giving me Raydeen and I still have them both to this day. Raydeen is missing his delta wing missle and his shield (not sure what happened to it, I had it for years). My Mazinga still has a broken leg that I've tried to fix in many different ways over the years but nothing has worked 100% yet. My boys LOVE them. lol.

I had a chance to buy a complete set. Raydeen, Mazinga, Dragun, Daimos, Gaiking and Godzilla. All 1st additions (mine are the later ones), all complete and in good shape, for get this, $10.00 a pop. I turned it down due to lack of space. ARG!

If it makes you feel better Ray, your Raydeen is in much better condition than mine.

Oh, I feel quite proud that he's in such good shape, in spite of all the play. He's got a big patch of abrasion on one side of his chest from a crash landing on my childhood home's rough patio concrete - among other battlescars! The Kiwi plastic cleaner (auto care department stuff) helps reduce the scuffs' presence.

I think the fact that he's decals are all there - even if a bit worn - really helps.

Can't believe you had to turn down that $10/each lot!!!!

If any of you resincasters are interested, a guy who made repros of Shogun Warrior parts (and a few associated Jumbo Machinder bits like Reideen's Bow-Arm) was selling all of his molds of them and getting out of that part of the hobby.

I can try to link up anyone interested.

Yep. Your Raydeen is in great shape for sure!
I think mine's leg decals have come off. He still has all the other decals.

Yeah, I turned down several great deals from the same guy. This one near killed me to say no though. I REALLY wanted them. lol. Especially Mazinga. As I mentioned, mine is the later edition with the V chest and attached brain/ship. I wanted the 1st edition one BAD. I had to buy the set to get them at $10.00 each though. I think he wanted $25.00 for just Mazinga and at the time, he also had a case of Mego WGSH including a Riddler I had to have.

That's cool, I never had a Raydeen. I still have my childhood Mazinga and Godzilla. I somehow managed to keep 12 of Mazinga's 14 missles since I was 10 years old. I did have to replace one of his legs that got cracked though, otherwise he hasn't been upgraded. Friends and relatives that remember these from 30 years ago can't believe I still have them when they see them.

Wow, that Mazinga is SWEET!!! Look at all those missiles!

I've got a second edition Dragun that I bought at a yard sale a few houses away for $10, no accessories, 2nd edition (no arm sawblades), but in great condition.

Jumbo Machinders are expensive - especially if you have to MAIL them - but no one can deny you sure as h3ll get a lot of toy for your money.

I still can't believe that I was able to hang on to so many of his missiles. It's not like I never played with him, either. I played with him a lot, he was always one of my favourite toys, and was the first step down the road towards my interest and appreciation of Japanese robots and toys.

$10 for a good condition Dragun is a great deal, even if he isn't complete.

I hear you about the price of Jumbo Machinders. I would love to get some of the original Popy versions but these things are just so damn expensive and difficult to collect. After Megos, the JMs are my favourite toy line. Who can resist two foot tall Japanese robots that shoot missiles and fists?

Sweet pic Ray, I love seeing childhood toys.

I still have my Mazinga, I never had him as a kid but I played with my neighbours and eventually bought him when the family had a yardsale. He's pretty beat but hey, he's the original garage sale find.
