Upon closer inspection of what comes with the playset, which I have never seen til now, I would say this was an attempt by Mego to market the 3 3/4 scale to girls, and would be a precursor to Fisher Price and their Loving Family sets. I always saw pics of the boat, but didn't know furniture came with it. That would make it a "doll house" and by default for that time, a girls toy, but being that it was probably the first of its kind, customers and toy stores probably didn't pick up on this.

I remember seeing them in stores as a kid, but I was never tempted by them because The Love Boat wasn't really my kind of show.

If the characters didn't have superpowers, robotic parts, or fire lasers, I just wasn't interested!

I saw a few of them in Kaybee cast week ... Wait that was 30 years ago lol. They didn't have anyone I wanted so I didn't buy any. Yep, I was actually disappointed I couldn't get Ike or Gopher.

I don't remember these, but my sister had an inflatable Love Boat swim ring/life preserver. Now that makes sense.

GI Joe RAH had a ton of boats, and even that ocean base/platform thingee. The Love Boat would have been a great place for Cobra to be sneaking about on, smuggling hi-tech weaponry and such.

I remember seeing these in the store way back when. I was puzzled for certain, but looking at them again I can see a certain charm.

I've got all of them carded except Gopher(still need to pick him up) I think the 70's cheesiness of these is what hooked me in.

I'm with you, Richard. I recall the Fisher-Price barn being the scene of some battles, but the Love Boat is a natural battlefront.

I remember these figures vividly. They hung them in aisle 8c of Toys R Us in Huntington, all the good boys toys where one Aisle over in 7c. I did buy Gopher years later in a garage sale because his hat was awesome. Still have the hat, no Gopher.

The Star Trek movie figures especially Kirk and Bones would look good with this set.

I like the idea of a covert GI Joe operation to rescue the boat from a cobra kidnap plot, but that's just me...

I forgot about the Klinger in a dress figure
and the Dk of Hzzd figures would blend in nicely

I think Cross dressing Klinger will be 1st guest on my new love boat.

Though your Boss Hogg idea isn't too bad....

I say give it to Boss Hogg and tick off everyone in Hazzard. "He spent our money on WHAT?"

A few years ago ebay had the boat and all the crew for like 100-150 bucks.
kind of wished i bought it, just so I could set it up in the apt and have folks go:
    "...the hell?!?!?"

but with all the other toys i have, folks do that anyways

I always wondered if i had it as a kid, what 3 3/4 figures would I have used as cruise "guest stars" that would be on board, with out being to fantastical (like Greedo, Chewbacca, Stormtroopers, Cylons)

G I Joe would blend, if they werent too military looking

I guess Alan Alda , Loretta Swit and Jamie Farr from M*A*S*H* , Dirk Benedict and Loren Greene (BSG) .
and maybe pretending they were in scuba gear Robin Williams (Mork), Martin Landau and Barbara Bain (Space 1999 Eagle)

could all get drinks from Isaac and give Julie attitude
