I used to break the holstered guns off of the Buck Rogers figures so they could at least have an accessory to use! -

That's funny. They seemed cheap to me also, except for black hole, love those. The weapons and vehicles are what drew me to SW.

Captain America was the only CAH fig i ever cherished, Dad bought me one, because he loved C.A. as a kid. I would really love to pick up a cheap beat up set and re-paint them, see what could have been.....Leave a comment:

I only remember how easily those figures broke, i loved them but I went through a few Robins cause the arms would snap offLeave a comment:

I remember when comparing the 3 3/4" Megos to Star Wars the weapons made SW figures cool. The fact the mego COA heroes had accessories never really did anything for me cause they couldn't hold them, except for maybe the Joker's cane.
Mego's lack of paint detail adds a charm to them. Looking back at Mego the figures are so primitive now, but their box art alone are still miles away from anything that is done today, most toy companies today just don't get it...they should look to Mego as what worked....Leave a comment:

no stripes on capt. america,...unpainted tiara on WW,....that's why i never really got into them, they were cheap looking, and as a kid it annoyed me, Why did they ignore some things (robin had no sleeves, and was bigger than Bats) they totally ignored some of the details, but sprang for metallic paint? That's why Star wars won out in 3-3/4 when it came to my $$$Last edited by captact; Dec 27, '09, 6:55 PM.Leave a comment:

Thats right! Forgot about how terrible Robin looked without the sleeves, and a faceless Joker,.etc...that's why i never really got into them, they were cheap looking, and as a kid it annoyed me, Why did they ignore some things (robin had no sleeves, and was bigger than Bats) they totally ignored some of the details, but sprang for metallic paint? >on the backs of the buck rogers figure, buck's face is painted in.
Those are possibly hand-made prototypes. Or ahnd-painted test shots from the run.

I'll take Buck Roger's articulation over Luke Skywalker's painted eyes any day...Leave a comment:

It was explained to me by Neal Kublan that it was a technological issue. He said that small details on the 8 inch figures were spray painted using paper masks, but they couldn't do the fine details on the small figures. Copper masks were developed, I assume by Kenner, that made small detail spray painting feasible. That's what I was told.Leave a comment:

I think it came down to technology. Mego would have needed to retool for the face painting to be done. Kenner obviously did do it and the rest is history. Of course, if did not hurt Kenner to have the greatest merchandising license in the history of toys.Leave a comment:
