For me personally if the meet is moved to a place I have to fly to then I go from a dealer to an attendee. There is no way I'm mailing stuff to the show. Plus I will have to drive 3 hours to Atlanta to fly basically any where (Montgomery only has direct flights to a handful of cities). And that means paying for my vehicle being there all weekend. But that's just my situation.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

We're weighing our options, they are:
1) Get a new venue in a new town, pay all expenses and hope it breaks even. This is very seriously being considered. I'm willing to invest personally in this as is Scott. We're not looking at places that we live near, both of us will be hopping planes.
2) Staying in Wheeling for one more year than setting sail.
Not every one is going to be happy with whatever decision we make and some will feel they can do it better but at the end of the day, we're going to try and make it the best Meet we can and hope some join us.
We've got a game plan to make this one our best yet, already started with a few things and we're hopeful we can have some fun with this one. Stay tuned as we'll probably need some volunteers.Comment

My thoughts exactly... I know it will be made by gathering all the information and probably by making tough choices and I appreciate the effort put into it. Once the decision is made I will start making my plans to be there.
Having said that; I am available to help in anyway I can, from grunt work to event sponsorship. Please don't hesitate to ask.

It's easy to suggest a city or location for an event like Mego Meet, but in reality you need to have connections, a venue lined up, and god knows how many other details to consider. I think Doc suggestion has more to do with the connections and opportunity to tie it to an existing event and venue than just the convenience of being nearby. It is impossible to find a location convenient to everyone, but I know that those in charge of the event will do everything they can to make it the best they can. I've not been able to attend in the past, but that has more to do with my own situation and ability to commit the time and money and scheduling than location.Comment

Too bad we can't tie it in to something like DragonCon. In their dealer's room this year, I saw a couple of dealers with DST Star Trek figures, and one guy was selling broken bods for cheap. Too bad they were broken to the point where it would cost more to get the spare parts, than to buy a new figure!
The dealers room was INSANE, and took up two whole levels! Can you imagine the number of converts we could have to the mego way of life if we could swing that kind of attention?
But, as much as I would like to see it, I know that there is no WAY it will come about. The connections involved, the finances, the logistics all kind of boggle the mind.JediJaidaComment

In the past people always suggested we have a Mego Meet nearer to where "they" live. That ranged all over the country. Back in those days DaveMC used to say you can have a Mego Meet where you live if you are willing to organize it. There's no reason why we can't have multiple Mego Meets in a single year. An additional Meet need not replace the Wheeling one.
We could have the main one in WV, especially since it's the 10 year anniversary. We can also have others throughout the summer. One obstacle was always that people had a vacation planned or a family function to attend which prevented them from attending. If we have multiple dates and locations you can go to the event that fits your schedule, is easiest to travel to and fits your budget.
Being this is the 10th year I would encourage people to organize and plan multiple Meets for 2014. I also felt having just 1 in Wheeling was not enough. There's always the Sunday downer when everyone is leaving and you know it's over for another year. I would love to be able to hang out with people a few more times throughout the spring an summer. It might be a bit of a challenge but I say we do more than just one Meet next year and try and cover some more ground. I have a new job and I will try my damndest to attend Wheeling and NY.Last edited by johnmiic; Sep 11, '13, 12:04 AM.Comment

I went to Dragon Con this year (and last year) since I live in Atlanta, saw the table with the broken bodies x2 for $5.00 also he had a messed up Hall of Justice for $250 and about 20 or so loose original mego's (price ranged $55 to $85)and a few Repro's.
I also went to MM 2013.
But the biggest things that would change with Mego Meet if it was to be moved to a part of MegaCon, we would loss control of Content, comradery and prices to buyers and sellers would sky rocket and worst of all to me the loss the human factor of the MEET (hearded around like cattle at a megacon with a very tight schedules to see or get what you want out of the three days).
I agree, I did get withdraws as soon as MM was over this year from the loss of face to face comradery, I really liked geeking out or hang out with you people and picking each others brains!! it would be great to do that about four times a year or more at a more convenient location by time and money and still keep the original MM non-diluted.Comment

There is but I don't think anyone has ever visited it. We have stayed pretty much in just one area in Wheeling and really haven't explored much more of the town except once we went on a hunt fora good replacement for Dunkin Donuts.Comment

I would love to attend Mego Meet in Wheeling. I think I represent the future long time collector of Mego (I've only started seriously collecting the last two years or so) and I've been involved in creating two very small regional mego gatherings and am confident i will never tire of all things mego. But i will never attend Mego meet in Wheeling because:
1. Not close enough to a major airport. I can't afford extra costs and more importantly the extra TIME it takes to get from airport to the Meet. Full time job, young kids and duties of life would only allow me a 1 to 1 1/2 day excursion to mego meet. No major airport close to Wheeling kills it for me.
2. It's always scheduled early June when school is in session for my kids, can't ya make it a week or so later? Are all the organizers kid-less?
I do understand the mental roadblock that exists for some people who do not wish to travel to New York City. Funny note, many people in Long island are repulsed of entering the other boroughs for same reason and vice versa other boroughs think the same negative thoughts of Long Island ...and poor Staten island..I can say this cuz i lived in manhattan some years. Bickering about New york or Wheeling is unnecessary but to be expected but I do think any thought of a new location must be a relatively small to mid-size city in a somewhat affordable part of the country. Northeast is expensive and intimidating, sorry.
The lack of a direct airport is keeping a lot of good folk away which may stifle the recruitment of new blood. But that may not be the goal of mego Meet, which is fine. The organizers (whoever they may be, sorry) have created something very special and successful and should humor this thread with a grain of salt.
kudos to herr doktor mego for starting this thread, I was too chicken**** to do it myselfINEPT VINTAGE WISENHEIMER

Yeah, I mean, I worked there but I've never been to the Wheeling Island Casino.......
Oh wait, Doc said on the first page that I and my city don't matter. He also said the meet and this hobby belong to him.
And we do have a Tim Horton's.
But, whatever. It seems all people want to do is Bicker and fight anymore. Really takes the fun out of things. I would really hate to miss the fun next June, but some people want to make it personal, and suddenly can't handle the way things have been done in the past? I can respect change. Change is good, but to get nasty about it, as has happened here? I would rather not even bother.
There are some truly great people in this hobby. Damn shame some people have to spoil everybody's good time.
I know I am not alone in that sentiment, and that makes me feel better.Last edited by B-Lister; Sep 13, '13, 3:15 AM.Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figuresComment
