    Stuff to do in Columbus

Hi. I saw something cool scheduled for Meet weekend, so I thought I'd kick off the thread.

CAPA (Columbus Area Performing Arts) runs a summer movie series showing old films on a big screen in a classic theater. During Meet weekend, Casablanca will be playing, and all tix are $.50. That's a cheap date. Shows are at 7:30 Fri & Sat, and 2:00 Sun.

"The CAPA Summer Movie Series, the longest-running classic film series in America, today announced the movie lineup for its 50th series of classic films and cult favorites. Made possible through the generous support of PVS Chemicals, the 2019 Series will run June 14–August 11 at the historic Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.)."

The Ohio Theatre is located at 39 E. State Street, between 3rd and High Streets, across the street from the Ohio Statehouse. View the SEATING CHART 39 E. State Street Columbus, OH 43215 Phone: (614)…

I also see the PRIDE fest that weekend, which might cause a shortage of hotel rooms, and the Creekside Blues & Jazz fest on the opposite side of the city.

Discover exciting annual events in Columbus. Celebrate Oktoberfest with classic German drinks or find a new favorite dish at the annual Food Truck Festival.

There’s a store in columbus called Big Fun. If you miss it, you’ll regret it. I think I spent more money there than at the Meet. Amazing vintage toys.

Also, please note that Columbus is a foodie town. Many of the best restaurants are in the short north area, but there are plenty of places around the area. For instance, in the NE part of the city is a stretch with international flavor. On Rt 161 are an authentic Mexican bakery and some of the best Chinese/Thai in the area. North of there on Cleveland Ave are places with Nigerian, Somalian, Brazilian, more Mexican, Mexican ice cream, and BBQ. Up the rd a minute is Filipino, and a few minutes east is amazing baklava (with 2 comic stores near the baklava). Also, we have a world class French place with a deep wine cellar:

Exceptional contemporary American and classic French cuisine is complemented by Refectory Restaurants world-class wine cellar, serving for over 40 years!

COSI, though it might be inaccessible due to Pride.

The botanical gardens feature one of the largest private collections of Chihuly glass art.

Akiba Arcade is a Japanese style arcade, it is currently located at the Eastland mall.

There is the Billy Ireland comic art museum. I really wanna get in there and see some of the classic superhero art.

The Origins Gaming Fair is running at the Columbus Convention Center from Thursday through Sunday, so anyone into RPG, tabletop games, CCGs, miniatures games, etc. should look into it if they are in town early or staying a day extra. They usually also have a killer art show and an excellent assortment of fiction writers as guest who set up shop inthe dealer room and run programs about writing and/or doing art. They do offer one day passes at the show for the day of.

If you do go into the show, there is also a very good comic shop in the food court of the convention center.

IIRC, there was a Mad Magazine exhibit there last year I really wanted to catch, but time just didn't allow for it.

I'm interested in checking out this Sesame Street exhibit.

Jim Henson, the founder of Sesame Street and the Muppets, is the subject of new COSI museum exhibition. “The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited” opens Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Columbus museum.

I believe the Sesame Street exhibit is at Cosi. I'm not saying don't go, but traffic will be insane, because that is the area Pride is being held.
