    Wanted Pinewood Derby Axel Bender?

if any one has one of these for sale - of if they could just been 4 nails/axels for me
    Please let me know

My son is in tiger scouts - and he just got his kit.
we have never made one of these - but from what I read on line they race better with the axels bent?

If anyone can help out - please let me know

    Thanks
    Vinny

We were able to use a spray graphite that reduced friction of the wheels which made the car go faster. This was about 10 years back so don't know if rules have changed. Good Luck!

Thanks guys - yes Neutron X. Seems like the rules changed a lot. There is like 4 pages of them!!

I have already heard some crazy stories about these races! I really don't want to be 1 of these crazy dads I hear about.
I just want to have fun with Michael and let him do as much as he can on the car.

My son is only 6 - no way he can work a saw or a dremel - So I will cut the wood for him, The videos I have watched it seems the cars can go a little fasted with the 2.5 degree axels
and I believe it is ok to do that in the rules - so I will double check the rule book. And yes Supes - you have to use the 4 nails (axels) in the kit but I think it is ok to bend them.

it should be fun - he wants to make it a star wars car - so we will try to make it look a little like a x wing and add a lego luke and r2 - I'll post some pictures of it once we make it

Check the rules that are on your area scout council website for what they allow and don't allow in the races. During my son's first year several kids were disqualified from racing due to modifications.

My son and I got a couple of trophies for Pinewood Derby, but it wasn't for speed, it was for design. Although I had a decent idea for a design in my mind that we never had a chance to try out.

well just re-read the rules - "New to this year" you can no longer bend the axels.

              glad I re-read them! lol
I only got the idea from watching the you tube videos

But this makes things much easier now. So I no longer need the bender. which is great

I'll be sure to post some pictures in the custom section once we complete it.

Thanks everyone for the all the info and insight!

That is great! I'm letting my son pick what ever he wants. I want to help him but I do not want to over run the project. I will just make the cut out for him and help as needed other wise what is the fun of it for him. Sounds like you and your on had a great time - hope ours is as well.

Yes we did, he's 13 now, but his pinewood derby cars are sitting on the shelf in his room.
