    price check Large S

Anyone know how much a large S Superman with skinny boots would run in decent shape? No tears or snags but doesn't have to be mint.

I would be interested in knowing this as well. There was one on eBay this weekend but too tough to tell the condition of the uniform. I think it went for 33 bucks. Another one (in a crushed box) sold last weekend for about 90 bucks. The figure was described as mint. eBay seems to have these incredible extremes which makes it difficult to figure out what a fair price to pay would be.

[Quick edit: I need to verify that these were both large S figures. Sorry for jumping the gun on this.]

Large S and skinny boots are both somewhat rare. I just don't know how rare. Or the going price compared to a type 2 or a normal footed t1 w/o stirrups in average good overall non mint condition.

Are the Large S figures found often or are they extremely rare?

Len, I've been looking for over 10 years and have yet to find or secure one. Other than the one featured in Imp's Book, most of the ones I have seen in private collections were usually C-6 at best, with the large S emblem being damaged or rolled heavily. That first edition suit also has a huge tendency to fade A LOT, even more so than first edition RC Batman.

So, finding one that looks anything like what he did right out of the box is a pretty big chalenge.

I know what I'd pay for a mint condition example. I would be very generous.

I landed one at a novelty shop on Sunday. I was just wondering. Seems to be pretty rare? It's not mint. About a c8 maybe? The S is original but does not look mint by a long shot. The guy had $75 on it. I talked him down to $60 and got it for that. I hated paying that for a superman but I knew the boots were harder and I wasnt' too sure about how hard the S is to find. I haven't been looking for this variation nor have I seen any other than on the Museum DC "S" page. But with a lack of replies other than a couple, I'm guessing it's hard even in less than perfect shape.

I'm guessing I did ok? I read where Dave MC states that it's a rare find. Wasn't much into it until I saw it. I almost passed it up but thought I may be kicking myself later.

            Len,
I would say that you did well getting a Large "S" Supes for $60.00 The condition doesn't sound too bad. Someone who has probably sold a few is AUSTEX. He can probably confirm or deny this. I would buy one for $60.00 if that helps. I have a large "S" Supes on a Kresge card but that wouldn't be relevent to this discussion.

              Yeah,

Len,I think you did good on that.

I own a decent loose one that got a few years back(I think from Don C.)
but really haven't seen any recently that weren't beat to s**t.

So if he's in decent shape,I'd say that's a nice score!!
You did right by grabbing him.

              Best,
              M

Thanks for the replies. I just don't know how rare they are. Sounds like they're pretty tough. I know Dan put a rarity index page around here somewhere. But I haven't been able to find any of the older key pages like that lately. I don't know if it was transitioned to the new museum or not. I'll dig for it. I'll post pics of this when I can get them taken.

I found the scarcity index page but it doesn't appear to have the Large S superman in it. However I did notice that most of the links are now dead.
This should be addressed. It's a good resource.

I sold a couple in better than average condition, with original stickers and skinny boots in the $140-175 range.

                  You did good, Len, congrats.

The figure shown in Benjamin's book is gorgeous,
and I'm pleased to have it as the centerpiece of my collection.

You just don't see them enough to really establish a good estimate on value. Like Heath, I'd love to have one in really nice shape and would probably overpay to get it, but I'm such a stickler about beat up emblems that one with a curled, creased or faded emblem I would just let pass me by.
