how do you remove a mego head

    Hello,

I was wondering how hard it is to remove a mego head from a figure? I have a RC Batman, and the head has the blue marks from the cowl, and I found a new head, but wasn't sure how to remove the old head, or if it is even possible without destroying the figure. Please let me know as I don't want to ruin my figure.

    Thanks a lot,

    Mike

You definitely can remove them. Depending on the plug of the head (the part that holds the head inside the body) you can generally just pop them out by squeezing the sides and pulling at an angle at the base of the head. Getting them on sometimes is a bit tougher depending on how hard the rubber is. I generally will heat up some water, and hold the base of the head in the hot water to soften the rubber, and then you can generally pop them back in with a little pressure (or use a dull object like the back of a butter knife to push the rest of the plug in).

Dip head/body in the some hot water. NOT BOILING, but hot enough to soften the vinyl. Leave for a minute, remove, then gently twist back and forth at an angle being careful not to over stretch vinyl at base of head. Avoid using metal and sharp objects to remove so as to not damage the head.
Same can go for putting the new head as well. But heat up the base plug on the head to soften.

      Good luck.

Just hold the body firmly and give that sucker a good yank and wiggle it'll come right out :-)

Twist the head all the way around twice and remove at an angle. The twisting will loosen up any crud etc that has settled in neck plug over the years. When putting head back just push one side in and then use a dull object to push the remainder in place. Twisting while pushing down also helps.

be careful, sometimes they are so old the rubber will begin to tear when you pull. if that happens stop, get a needlenose pliers and pull it out from the base of the neck to prevent it from tearing all the way. ; )

I just use my strength. Works every time. To put it back on I us a flat head screwdriver. You got to control your movement.

                Hmmmm....

Yeah, warming them up a bit helps. A hair dryer with a medium setting is good, so is a hot day.

Warm/Hot Water method as described by Ed is the best way. No fears of ripping the head or tearing the neckplug.
