The more that you look at this - It is really not up to Mego standards overall (outfit and detail). I think this theory makes sense!!
BTW - He looks better with a belt - maybe none were left or the tooling was gone That is why he does not have one! It would have added cost to whatever he would have gone with!! (if he was supposed to be sold like that)
Something else interesting I just realized though - None of these heads seem to be faded (as we know oil was at a premium in the late 70's) - Maybe we can rule out a couple years when it could not have been manufactured - This may have been said already but maybe heads were left over and painted in the early 1980's (when needed).
Wow! thanks for the pics guys! This does give some weight to this theory.
Is it just me, or is there something different about the hands? Not just being a type 1 body, but the hand size and even the shape to a degree seem a little off to me. Maybe it is just the angles on the pictures.
But yeah, the quality of the clothing does not seem to be up to Mego standards. Same thing with the eye paint. just white and blue. No pupils.
Looking for:

Both Secret identity Bruce Wayne and Tex Willer did not have copyright info on the back. So if he is Mego, or at least a Mego made head and not a knock off, the head likely came from these figures. Also, the head design in all versions (RC Batman, Bruce Wayne, Tex Willer) from what I can tell, were all phased out during 1974. This would put the MM somewhere from this point (likely anyway). I'd say that is as good a place as any to start.
