    Canadian Batmobie Variant ?

004[1].JPG006[1].JPG I live in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada and I remember my parents buying me this batmobile at a store called Eatons in the fall of 1978 just before my 11th birthday. I have been asked by people if the decal on the door is original and I am 100 % sure it is. Is my batmobie rare in any way. I have never seen another one with the same kind of decals. Any help in identifying the rareity of this car would be awesome.

    IMO, it is not original.

I grew up in Canada, got my Batmobile at Eatons and even scored a bunch in original Parkdale Novelty boxes at one point.

I've never seen any with such a sticker in my 25 plus years of dealing with this stuff.

It's been at least 20 years, but I recall when I first got online and started looking for Mego. One of the first things I went after was 'the Mego Spider-van.' I was convinced it existed, and would have bet my soul on it. Gus Lopez politely corrected me. I agree with Brian. Even if you applied that sicker yourself, I'd wager that someone mixed-in some extra stickers from somewhere before you received it. That sticker looks an awful lot like something from AHI to me.

Maybe I am getting alzheimers, LOL. I am positive it came from the store like that but I am not an expert. Maybe my parents applied the decals but I wonder why they would. No big deal if its not rare. I am curious if anyone has ever seen one like mine. Will try and do some research on my own.

I think it's also interesting that not only does your Batmobile have that type of sticker on the side but that it also seems to be missing the three silver 'rocket launcher' pipes that should be mounted directly behind the seats. Did it originally come like that or did something happen to them since you've had it?

The car did have the 3 silver rocket launchers at one point, but I guess after almost 40 years of being played with a lot as a child they either broke off or were removed. I do not ever remember altering my batmobile in any way when i was a child. I just played with it a lot with my younger brother. My brother would have the batmobile and I would use the Big Jim Rescue Rig as the vehicle for my bad guy Megos. I would set up Catwoman outside the rig and Batman and Robin would come to arrest her, and when they did, I would open up the Rescue Rig and Joker, Penguin, Mr. Mxyzpltx, Green, Goblin, Lizard and about 30 First Encounter of the 3rd kind figures would attack Batman and Robin. Does anyone out there have those figures? They were about Mego size and were completetly nude figures made of rubber I think. My uncle got them for a buck a piece from a store called chappels just before it closed.

That perfect Bat-symbol wasn't seen on much back in the 70s. It didn't get a lot of use on merchandise until the 1982 DC Style Guide took hold on all merchandising. Mego's Batman chest symbol wasn't even in a real oval, but some odd rounded rectangle, and AHI's symbols are different as well.

It looks really cool like that, though!

Well here is a Spider-van.....but its made by Empire, not Mego: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mego-Empire-...item23259b9927

.....you probably already know about this, but it does look like a pretty cool item!

That's the one - but my childhood mind converted it to a Mego product:-)

There was a smaller plastic bat mobile that used that sticker and would have been around the same time, but I think the sticker might be a little smaller. Also empire aimed that van right at the mego market along with their helicopters.
