    Question about the Hulk/Thing body.

First off. Hoping all had a Great Thanksgiving and survived the insanity of post holiday shopping venues.

Ok. Here is a question that kinda been gnawing at me since I joined this wonderous site. It seems to me Mego came up with the Mass-Production stadigy of producing ONE utilitarian body type for each catagory (Male, Female, Child, Fat male and Heavy Muscle body) To which a unique head was added to define that specific charactor. In many cases These bodies filled the creation of dozen of SuperHeroes, Villians, Soldiers, and historical figures. But what about the Heavy Muscle Body used for Hulk and the Thing? Its kinda hard to believe that a frugal copy like Mego would produce a unique body style for just TWO charactors!!! Was Mego's plan to utilize the body style for other charactors that we never got to see???
All speculation aside, I've always been curious as to an official Mego explanation of this.

I don't know the answer to that question for certain, but I think when they first made the body, they just had Hulk in mind. He was a very popular character at the time and they probably thought it was worth the tooling to make the body for just that one character. They made a 12" Hulk with a unique body too.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Following Mego's "Game plan" of re-dedicating certain body types to differing charactors. I would think they would have plans for other charactors to use this particular body. I think the same was the case for the Teen Titan WonderGirl body.
Then again, Its been wondered before what Mego would have come up with had not the company gone out of business.

Yeah, Mego did re-use a lot of parts. But the 8" Hulk came out in 1974 and The Thing came out in 1976. When The Thing came out, they made new forearms for the figure, so each of those figures has unique parts there. They made 8" WGSH figures all the way up to 1982. It just seems like if they had plans for the Hulk body beyond what it was used for, they would have had plenty of time to release those characters. I'd bet that Hulk was the only one intended for that body and when the idea of doing the Fantastic Four came up, someone said, "...and we've already got that Hulk body tooled. We can use that for The Thing."

They kind of did the same with the Type 1 Lizard. His limbs weren't used for anything else.
