Just the Facts: why the change T1 to T2

Why did Mego decide to change from the T1 body to T2 ?

Is there any existing information on this ?
    Was it economic ?
Was it a design flaw in the T1 ?
Is there any existing interviews or facts on this?
To me, it seems like a radical difference to make in the action figures.

    Thanks.

I think the T-2 just looks better IMO. Now I have been changing all my T-2 bodies to a Swivel arm body thanks to CAT and DM. So I think everything has to evolve just like my collection, thats what makes this all so fun because you can constantly change Megos so easily.

The type 2 body is far easier to dress for one thing, which speeds up production time. Also, it's just a better design over all, mego could sell bare chested figures rather than using body suits.

Why change from the T0 body to the T1 body in the first place?

T1 bodies don't sit very well, for another thing. Try getting T1 Batman to stay on the Batcycle.

Neal Kublan mentioned that they had concerns about the metal rivets having lead in them.

I've always preferred Type 1 bodies over Type 2 (Type 2 bodies just look like Russian ballet dancers IMO), but I can certainly understand the switch.

Type 1 - while they have a certain charm about them - do not pose very well or stand very well.

I also wonder if the plastic pin body was cheaper in its production and in its assembly. If so, Mego probably took advantage of changing the body to be more muscular and rounder (more natural) at the the joints.

I don't like the T1 bodies personally. It's all aesthetics for me; I hate the ugly rivets and the awkward jumping jack pose. The only T1 that I prefer, and have in my collection, is The Lizard.

To me,Type 1s work best with the Western figures. Gives them that nice gunfighters stance.

Aesthetically, I prefer t2--only my Mad Monsters are t1.

And if anyone has t2 glow hands for sale, we can remedy that.

I would guess it had to be about money or safety otherwise why re-tool?

As kid my action figures didn't stand around much -- they were either in a big pile or in my hands.

I always preferred the T2 body. The T1 always seemed robotic to me and I liked that the pins in the arms made the hands more flesh and human looking. I recall the first time I saw a T2 at a friends house, I was able to convince him to trade his Batman T2 body for my T1 Batman body.Yes my name is Chuck and I have as mego type2 addiction!

There was alot of concern about product safety reguarding toys in the 70's. Dan Acroyd did a skit on Saturday Night Live to parody some of these issues reguarding toy manufacturers. They even used a Fonzi figure in the skit.
