    Newbie Questions

    Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if there was a particular stand that is mostly commonly used for displaying Megos. Just looking for a push in the right direction.

Secondly, even though all of the Megos that I have are loose, I have a few re-megos coming and I plan to display them and I was wondering if there is a technique that you all employ for opening. Ideally, I would like for there to be minimal impact on the packaging (big surprise there huh...). Just wondering.

Sorry for the newbish questions but last time I received new Megos I didn't have to worry about any of this stuff.

    Thanks

    Bob

All my loose figures stand fine on their own so I don't use stands. But that's just me. And welcome to the Museum.

Welcome to the Museum. GREAT place for sure.

As for stands, I'm not sure....I havent gotten to the 'display' stage yet myself, I keep them in a Rubbermaid tub when I'm not playing...errrr...POSING them.

Yep, if you want stands, these are the best way to go. I use black ones, they are very unobtrusive on my black shelves.

Yup the kaiser ones are good, and 12 for 15 bucks is a good price. Sometimes you can find them at Michaels, and hobby lobby.

Thanks for the info. Looks like those stands come in a few colors. Pretty reasonably priced too.

Rather than start a new tread I figured that I'd add a few questions here:

Are there any sources for original clothes that you all use frequently? I have located some sources of repros but just wondering if ebay is the way to go here.

Is there any type of priceguide out there (online or otherwise)?

Can outfits (bodysuits) be washed in a clothes washing machine? I've seen a few outfits and though, "just needs to go through the wash". Just wondering.

Sorry for all the questions....hey, who knows...by the end of this we may have a newbie faq (ps..if one already exists please direct me to as to stop these questions.lol)

                Cheers

                Bob

ps...just snagged my first few classics and the reason for these new questions is that they are in the buff currently.

RussG had a post in a thread about some general pricing guidelines recently. Difficult bit about pricing is that it does fluctuate. Russ did have some good pointers tho.

You should be able to find the thread by using the search function in the blue bar for the term 'price guide'

As for original clothing and accessories, I would say auction lots and watching the marketplace posts are your best bet. You can post a 'wanted' list in marketplace as well and see what that turns up.

Regarding the washing of suits, I personally would NEVER toss them into a washing machine...I go the sink route - warm water and a dab of detergent. This has worked well for me on many occasions....hell, I was able to turn a Cheron suit about five shades lighter by just soaking it for a bit.

As for suits, depending on what you are after, feel free to see HERE:

Some of these pieces have snags/tears/damage/dinge, but much of it is very nice. If you see anything that you need, just let me know. Folks were (and continue to be..) very kind and generous towards me when I first arrived here, so its only RIGHT to keep the positive karma flowing........

Take care and have fun -

Back to add a few more questions to the mix:

My Batman and Penguin just arrived in the mail. Batman's head seems slightly tilted to one side (perhaps inquisitively...he is a detective after all). The head itself seems fine and undamaged as does the opening for the head. Its ever so slight. Is this normal or just a manufacturing thing on this particular figure?

Also, I noticed that while batman has plastic joints, with tighter limbs and blue underwear, the Penguin has got metal joints with a looser (almost elastic rope-like) limbs and is totally flesh colored. Also Batman is dated at 74 while the Penguin is labeled at 73. Is this what is meant by a type 1/type 2 body difference?

Again, sorry for the "duh" questions...the last time I collected was a long time ago and I didn't worry about such things.

                      Thanks Everyone,

                      Bob

Yes, the metal joints are the eairler type 1 body and the other is type 2. As for the tilt of the head, that's something I don't know about.

Cool...thanks. The tilt is so slight that most will ignore it, especially once I put on his suit and accessories. I guess just a manufacturing snafu.

                          Thanks for the info.

This is just a guess from a novice but someone may have had the head off and just didn't get it back on all the way. Maybe try pushing down on it to make sure it is fully secured.
