any idea how to clean marker off a Mego costume?

Picked up the Speedy shirt that was on ebay recently and it has some marker on it. I tried washing with laundry detergent and cold water but no effect. Anyone have any ideas?

    thanks, Kevin

Check with Derek (Flynne). He's the resident suit cleaner. He'll know.

Don't think I am crazy!! But this is the only thing that I have had work - BlueMagic 900 Carpet Stain & Spot Lifter.

          It works well!!

i let stuff soak over night in oxy clean. if you can put just enough to cover the section you want in a shallow cup - set the suit in - try to avoid sticking multiple colored sections in together. if you can't let it rest in the cup (or saucer) use your fingers or a damp cloth to wet the areas you want cleaned.

rinse wit cool water in the morning an hang dry.

okay, Oxyclean did not work....thanks for the suggestion Brue. I will have to try the carpet cleaner Joseph mentioned. maybe the marker has just been in there too long. 30 years probably?
                anyone else have any ideas?

                  Hi,

Many times if it has been in there that long, you may get it lighter but it will still be there. If you do too much you may get it out but may make the area around it look worse!

yeah, that thought did occur to me. also considered bleaching it and redying but not sure I would get the original color correct

If you bleach it, be careful because the thread is very fragile. Use as little bleach as possible. The thread can just disintegrate then you will have to have it re-sewn as well!!

Experiment with a little bleach then slowly add until the stain is gone. It may be difficult finding the correct die as well!

yeah, the bleach idea was just a thought and then discarded.....I mean if I bleach and redye it, is it really still original Mego? if the stain does not come out it does not come out. I was just hoping to have some luck with it.....if anyone else has ideas let me know

ya know, there is something really great about a complete, but well worn figure

i ride vintage scooters and the patina is just part of the character of the item
