Children's palace and international Carded Megos

In St Louis we used to have a few Children's Palace toy stores around, and my brother and I would check in ever few weeks to see what was new. The place closed up about 1992? But on one of our stops there in the late 80s or early 90s we found a whole end of an isle full of French or Spanish carded Mego figures. Spiderman, Mr. Fantastic, Batman and maybe Superman. We bought a few for ourselves, of course looking back I wish I had bought them all.

But my question is really about how it came to be. Were foreign Megos still being produced that late? Was it like a bunch of leftovers that were dumped on the toy chain? Did anyone else run across this phenomena?

I will see if I still have the cards somewhere.

They were leftovers from France released to US chains at deep discount to the US. One of Mego's international sales people did the deal.

i remember having my grandfather take me to roses on williamson rd in roanoke va probably in 82 or 83, i was a bit old for toys (12). they had a wall of treks i can't remember if it was just spocks or what, but that is what i bought and i was so happy to replace my beat spock with a new one that i was going to keep really nice....

i definitely checked back there in about 90, when i felt more secure with my love of toys, just to see if there were any left, it seems they were all sold out

I think it was children's palace stores that started cleaning out their warehouse in the early 1990s and flooded the market with late 70s and early eighties merch. I had a friend who actually drove across country filling his car several times and shipping it all back.

He had tons and tons of Star Wars, Pocket Heroes, Pin Pin carded WGSH and Clash of the Titans stuff, it was unreal.

Yes, but it was probably around 1989 or so. I found a wall of Fantastic Four, Hulk and Spiderman 8" Megos for $0.99 each. I didn't pick up any. I regretted not getting them and went back shortly after, but they had all been sold.

I bought piles of Mego Micronaut stuff from the couple of Children's Palace stores that were reorganizing around 1990. I wish I'd have had the cash and ambition back then to go on a road trip and find some more!

What kills me is that I started really seriously collecting toys around 1990/1991, and I must've just missed the last batch of Pin Pin Megos that flooded the market around here just before then. Odds are that some were still around in various places even at the time I'd started, but I was unaware of it so I didn't know to really hunt for them! I wish I had known about all of those toys being liquidated, I would've gladly bought up as many WGSH, Micronauts, and Clash Of The Titans toys as I could find/afford.
