Are the Mego head Sculpts public domain?

Are the non-license and non-likeness headsculpts from Mego in the public domain? I'm assuming that CTVT are not paying license fees for their repro Robin Hood, Knights, Western Heroes etc?

I think anything non licensed would be considered public domain by now.

Could Doc re-create these lines and add to them now? I would love a Nottingham and Queen G!

I always thought it was a shame that CTVT stuff was so shoddy--Mego's non-licensed lines are truly beautiful figures. (Well, maybe excepting the West head-sculpts lol.)

I, too would love to see quality line extensions, but I doubt the market is there. We can't even get more ST:TOS or POTA.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

^ Um, more new ones, as oppposed to TNG. Aren't Vine & Chapel in limbo?

Admittedly, just being a bit --I do like Emce & BBP.

I think that the Supergirl sculpt is free domain, otherwise Doc wouldn't be able to sell a copy of it on his website.

I wonder though; would Dinah mite count as a licensed property or private property?

She was exclusive to Mego, wasn't she? She wasn't based on any popular character in any kind of media?

I always thought she had a beautiful sculpt, but those side glancing eyes were kind of spooky if you were an eight year old kid.

If I were to market her today, I'd simply update the hairstyle and give her forward looking eyes.

Without any marking or obvious traits to make the Supergirl head definitely Supergirl, it boils down to it being just a generic blonde head. Same with unmasked Robin, Bruce Wayne, Shazam, and Superman, sort of. Supermans spit curl is a trademark, but since the head was also used as Don, you can probably sell it as Don without problem.
                Batman is way out, however.
Dinah would also be public domain I'm thinking.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

With Dinah,I'd lean towards "yes" as well. I mean Playing Mantis was able to do Action Jackson,so why wouldn't someone else be able to do her?

I think as long as the features are not part of a copyright, then it should be public domain.

There's a different between public domain properties and abandoned properties. Mego - or at least the real-estate company Mego eventually became after the company emerged from bankruptcy - might be able to make some claim on them, or even Marty Abrams' current company. However, if the potential trademark/copyright claimants aren't interested or able to pursue any claims on the designs, then it becomes abandoned.

Yeah. Dr. Mego had a lot of problems with them before they got into business together.
