As far as I know, Galen has green ears.

That's been how I have viewed them as well. Corny with brown ears and Galen with green ears.

Galen has green ears with pink lips. Corny ears are brown.

I prefer to be a bit less specific.....

            Cornelius on a T1 body, Galen on a T2.

Of course we know both came on both types of bodies but that's kind of how I look at them too.
I also associate Galen more with the purplish vinyl on the tunic and Cornelius with the browner vinyl and I'm fairly certain that no Galens have been confirmed with the brown fabric suits?

That's the way I usually look at it too. I know that first series POTA figures can be found on type 2 bodies, and visa versa, but it's an easy way to distinguish them. I've never studied carded examples close enough to see which shows up with green ears more. I have a T1 and a T2 chimp, so I'm considering my loose POTA collection to be complete (other than outfit variations), I don't even remember what colour their ears are.

There is no real answer to this question if I recall. It is an old question and last time I remember seeing it, I recall pics of carded Corny's with green ears. I think the closest answer was if it's t1, has brown ears, it is corny and can't be galen, if it is anything else it could be either. That rule seems to usually fit, although I am not even sure that is accurate.

both galen and later issue cornelius have green ears, the best way to tell them apart is that galens tend to have a shiney paint job with a slightly smaller head, cornelius tend to have a dull paint job, galens heads are also harder ,at least thats what i have seen over the years ,i have a lot of both figures,i have never seen a galen with a vinyl black or brown chest scroll plate on card, but i did with brown vinal on the sleeves, cornelius seem s to come in all the colors of black, brown ,purple

also the early cornelius and ziras colors are more like you would see in the films, with dark hair lighter faces and black or brown vinyal

The answer is so obvious - the name is right there on the card! It's just above the figure right on the top. It'll either say "Cornelius" or "Galen" ...or you can tell by the card color; the "Galen" card is yellow while the "Cornelius" card will either be Blue or Orange.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Someone in marketplace has a card Cornelius (t1) with green ears - so both can have green ears.

You cannot be sure unless you have a carded figure.
