I was thinking about this the other day.
Since the AJ boots are exact matches besides the pinholes and are technically accurate and MEGO-made; how much should the value suffer...or should it?
Most times the pinholes are hard to see so it's not like they stand out like a sore thumb.
Personally I would place a higher value on 'unpinned' boots but that's just my personal taste and I don't feel they are so rare that they should be crazy-priced when compared to AJ stock.
Opinions?

hmmm...it's kinda like the Tarzan knife i guess. Same sorta deal. To be honest i guess it shoudn't make a difference, cus they are both Mego products..Repro vs Vintage though..Complete different ballgame though....So with that said....pinholes..no pinholes...my soldiers are gonna happy with there new army boots, and give back those stinkin 3 toe boots where they belong...lolI LIVE for the "attic smell" of Mego's!!!Comment

Wish I'd seen your trade thread earlier. I need a pair of those 3 toed boots for one of my generals.hmmm...it's kinda like the Tarzan knife i guess. Same sorta deal. Well, at least with Tarzan's knife, there are no pinholes on the AJ version, so they are identical. With the boots.....it depends. For example, many would consider a Peter Parker with pinholes in his white shoes to be not 100% authentic (although 100% vintage Mego). For some collectors, this would be unacceptable, for some it would be "good enough" unless something better comes along, and for some it would be practically the real thing, or close enough not to care. Everyone has different levels of tolerance, I've seen some pretty lively arguements around here on the topic.hmmm...it's kinda like the Tarzan knife i guess. Same sorta deal. Actually that's not true. It all depends on how the person who stitched the items to the card went about it. If they straddled the knife it would be unmolested and therefore being from the same stockpile as the Tarzan knife it would be indistinguishable BUT...
I have samples of this knife where they put the needle right THROUGH the blade therefore forever marking it as coming from an AJ set.
I've seen it both ways and that's actually where I got my Tarzan knife from.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I got my knife from an AJ set where the string just looped over the knife to hold it to the card, and thought that they all came that way. It would suck getting a set with a needle hole through the knife, especially if you were buying it specifically for using the knife for Tarzan (like I did).Comment

Yeah, the first spy set I got had the hole in the knife, then when I won another one in a lot I was pleasantly surprised to find the string looped over the knife instead of through it. I thought I had won the lottery.Interesting, I didn't know that. I wonder what percentage have holes? You'd think it'd be easier to loop over it than try to stab that little blade so maybe more exist nice than pierced?

I would have easily given you two pairs of APES/AJ combat boots per pair of "stinkin' 3 toe boots"... I only wish MEGO had thought of designing camel toed boots for the Soldiers...Comment
