    Help! My Mego Superman Smells!

I just bought a 12" Superman via ebay. When I first opened the package he was mailed in, I noticed a faint but distinct cigar aroma coming from the packaging itself. So when I unwrapped the Superman I gave him a "smell test." And when I put my nose right up to him, he smells clearly of cigar and cheap perfume. Luckily, it's faint enough that you can't smell it unless you press your nose pretty much right up to the figure. But once your nose is there, the odor is pretty strong.

He's otherwise in more-or-less pristine condition, as promised on the ebay listing. So this stench is a real disappointment. The ebay listing also said he'd been among a lot from an abandoned storage unit that was purchased at auction, for whatever that's worth.

I am hesitant to put him in my glass display case with my other Megos, for fear that his "stench" might spread.

Has anyone else ever encountered this problem before? If so, might you have found any solution? The best I can think of is just to expose him to fresh, circulating air for a few days in hopes that this odor dissipates. But any advice is much appreciated (especially advice based on actual, prior experience).

Thanks very much for any help!

Put him in a bag with a fabric softner for a bit. It should suck up the smell into the fabric softner.

            Smell

Put some baking soda in a coffe filter and twist it into a pouch. Tie it shut with a rubber band. Put the figure in a plastic bag with baking soda pouch. This will remove the order without making new oders like febreeze or fabric softner.

                Thank You! It Worked!

Thank you all very much for these helpful suggestions.

The smell was localized to his head and shoulders (for whatever reason), I noticed. So, using a modified version of the above advice, I fashioned a "hood" out of a "Bounce" dryer sheet and left that on his head and shoulders overnight. And amazingly the cigar/perfume smell is now totally gone, with no added "Bounce" smell.

Thanks again very much! I would never have been able to solve this problem without everyone's input.
