Because budget is a concern for me, most of the boxes that I own are pretty beat up. As a result, they sometimes need a bit of care. I agree about trying to remove as much of the excess tape and glue that previous owners may have applied, but I don't know of a good, safe way to clean the residue from the boxes. The only thing I've done is use a slightly damp paper towel to gently clean off dust. Other than that, I'm open to suggestions too!

Ive used a blow drier to remove any old tape from a vintage box. I also use lighter fluid to take the gooey residue from the tape or a old tag. Seems to work well. As far as cellos you can use double sided tape. My dad works at a factory where they have the same type of glue they use on the blisters so I usually go down and make use of their glue if need be.

Yeah, lighter fluid works great to remove residue

I've tried lighter fluid, but it took away a bit of the shine.
