    Vinyl Cape Superman????

    Hi
At an auction I picked up what appears to be an original 1972 superman with the vinyl cape. How can I tell if the cape is in fact the vinyl and if this is the original 1st superman doll?
    Thanks

The vinyl material should look like material used to make the oven mitts on Bat Man & Robin. Posting a pic would also be a good start

Check out the vinyle caped Superman in the Mego Museum Gallery. That one is mine. I submitted it to the museum. The yellow belt on mine is the same vinyle material as the cape. Check that out on yours. But please, post a couple of pictures. I can compare it mine so we can verify it.

Lucky you! The first edition Superman did not have a vinyl cape.

That is correct. The first eddition did not have a vinyle cape. Here's some pictures of mine. Since the time it was displayed on the museum I have cleaned the suit as best as it would get. Since the red satin shorts are made of the same material as a regular Superman cape, I changed the body to a type 1. Normally Superman would have come on a type 1 body with satin shorts. Also, he does not have stirrup pants. I also snatched an original "S" for him as well.

The belt is the same vinyle material as the cape!

I can never get tired of looking at that vinyl cape Superman!

This is not stated as fact, but since the nylon trunks made a brief re-appearance on Type 2 Supermans, this vinyl cape Superman could have been on a Type 2 body.

Common sense is not that common.

That's true, but in this case I thought it would be better fitting to have it on a type 1. I wish that his outfit was not so play damaged. I still would like to see a picture of spectre1991's vinyle caped Superman!!!!

I do not think really any of these have surfaced. Until I found mine, the Mego Museum was under the influence that the vinyle caped Superman did not exist. So where there's one there must be more. But just how many??? We still need the guy who started this thread to post a picture of his!!!!
