    Original Star Trek line question

I have fond memories of walking into the toy section of Sears (?) with my mom back in the mid-70s and beholding a spinner loaded with the original 6 figures from Star Trek. I think I got the Enterprise bridge set that day as well. (I was a good boy who never asked for any toys other than Mego, which were relatively cheap, so my mom was pretty generous about it!)

Lately I was wondering how many Star Trek Megos came in a box to retailers back then. 12? 20? And did these boxes contain more figures of, say, Captain Kirk or Mr. Spock, than of other characters, in order to meet the demand for more popular characters?

I was pretty much the same when it came to asking for toys, so my mom and grandmother would get them for me, but instead of Sears it was usually ChildWorld or Kresge’s.

The boxes contained 24 characters on the backer cards, so one box had 24 carded Kirk’s, then a box of 24 Spock’s and box of 24 Klingons.

The other characters like Dr. McCoy along with Scotty and Uhura might have been distributed differently since they weren’t as popular as the others, I’m guessing a box of 24 maybe had 10 carded McCoy’s and Scotty and 4 of Uhura, she was the only female in the entire set so perhaps she wasn’t a popular choice with boys, but I am not sure if this info is correct?
there might have been boxes of 24 each of those characters as well.

I don’t know about the aliens, the first wave of 4 were Cheron, Keeper, Gorn and Neptunian, I’m guessing they may have came mixed in a box of 24.

The second wave Romulan, Andorian, Mugato and Talos, maybe were the same, but I believe as the story goes, less boxes of those were made. Another member here may have better or more accurate info about this.

Here is a picture of a box, 2 dozen and notice the item number says 51201, which is a box of 24 carded Captain Kirk’s.

Thanks, TrekStar! It makes sense that Kirk and Spock would have entire boxes to themselves and that supporting characters would have a mix.

The Klingon also came in a box of 24, probably since he was the main antagonist and popular. I think the other supporting characters along with the aliens line might have been a mixed box.

I remember around the time of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", the KB Toys had a ton of Kirk, Spock, & The Klingon. I don't know if they were trying to move old product or what, but that's all I remember them having.
