I've heard of these figures having ape hands before. Mego used pretty much everything and tossed nothing. Not sure if I've heard of only one ape hand though.

The Falcon has been found with ape hands in the past. I would not be surprised if the hands were also used for other black characters (a mistake that a company would surely taken a beating for today).
