Red Drac / Blue Frankie package

With all the take about these 2 lately I was wondering - can we assume that both the Red haired Dracula and Blue haired Frankenstein were only released in solid boxes and that if you got one of those as a kid it was just luck of the draw at the store? Can you imagine the kid getting home, opening it up and going "What the heck?"

Has any ever been found MIB or MOC?

Good question. I would have been very disappointed if my Frank had blue hair. Well, back then anyway.

It's not unlikely that they appeared on a Kresge card and in a window box. Basically any package that contained a type 1 figure could have had a Drac or Frank hair variant shipped in that packaging.

I have a smooth black haired Dracula in a window box but there is no way for me to confirm that the figure is original to the box.

I imagine they could have come in window box. Megogeek, would so love to see a pic of your smooth hair Dracula in window box, sounds awesome!

I'm looking for a set of window box MMs if anyone has any for sale.

I think Matt Jaycox has a Blue Haired Frankenstein that came in a standard solid box.

The one rather dubious fly in the ointment here would be the years of piecing megos together.
20 years ago the people who were dropping $1000 a figure would never have looked for these.
They were probably too busy trying to assemble their Dr Evil lab set.

Both my "Blue Cornelius" and Blue Frankenstein
were itemes I had never heard of and were purchased sight unseen from a dealer named Mark Pedersen in Portland Oregon (Dr. Tongue's 3-d House of Toys). This was in 1992.
As these (as well as the Red Dracular) were meer variations, the interest for them in the 1990's was MINIMAL at best compared to Teen Titans, or Romulans, or the HOLY GRAILS at the time, the ALTER EGOS. THe Monsters were NOT UNIVERSAL and deemed not worthly of being in many upscale collections. "The bolts are wrong"... etc
It was not like the monsters were even selling for as much as a Variation Mxyplyzyk. At least HE was somewhat recognizable.

It would help if a single person would turn up who actually remembered owning one as a child. Even then though memories can be a bit dodgy.

In your toy hunting, find out all the history you can.
Notate which state the figures were found in.
As these are items which rather fell through the cracks most of what you will learn about them may be based upon theory and conjecture.

Seeing as Mike Rogers remembered getting a Type 2 Frank in a solid box, it stands to reason that the period in which the hair colour change happened (very early) was possibly solely in solid boxes.

Brian, I would concur. What region was he from?

I'm still not sure about the actual timeline regarding window boxes versus solid boxes. My childhood T1 Mummy came in a solid box and the one time I saw these guys at retail, they were in solid boxes. My solid box Frankie is a T2. I bought him from Mark Huckabone who said he pulled it from a case, so I'm assuming that figure is original to that box. Were window boxes released during the solid box run, but for a more limited time?

Scrub was indeed an excellent source for fresh Megos as well as Info. Sadly his book about Mego never really materialized. That is a question that I'm sure he could have answered. Now however I fear most of the people with mega collections in the 1990's have rather retired from the hobby and couldn't be bothered.
                      Cheers,

I vividly remember getting a Wolfman in the summer of '76 while visiting the Wisconsin Dells on vacation. I have a pic somewhere of me with the box sitting behind me on the couch. You can only see the side of the box so I have to look and see if it's a Solid or Window box.
