    Kresge

Well, I learn something new every day.

I happened to be watching Jeopardy the other night and their was a question related what store named after founder Sebastian Kresge.

I knew the answer immediately as K-Mart from this site but didn't know that Kresge is pronounced (krez-gee). I always thought it was pronounced
    (krez-je) soft g and e instead of a hard g and e.

Very cool. I remember going there in downtown Steubenville when I was very little with my parents. We'd shop and sometimes I'd get a hotdog or grilled cheese and tomato soup at the lunch counter. We always referred to it as the original pronounced name but as a child it always sounded more to me like (kres-kee's). I remember lots of dime store toys there. But then again that's exactly what it was.

The Kresge's are my favorite. I'm not sure why, to bad I can't usually afford them.

I never even heard of the name until I started collecting Megos, so I never heard it pronounced. When I first saw the word, I thought that the "e" at the end was silent, but that made the pronounciation very awkward.

Same here. I still like the way I pronounce it though

I remember all the commercials from when I was a kid listing off store names at the end and it definitely sounded like krezz-keys but listening closely you could hear the "G" for the "K" in "keys" ("G" as in "gun")..so krezz-gees with a hard "G".
