    Comic Head Superman in Australia

    Hi guys,

Just posted a couple of catalogue scans on my blog showing the 12 Inch Comic-Head Supes available in Australia back in the day. I've known they were released here for a while but it was good to be able to come up with some proof.

    Cheers!

Definitely a surprise coming from Safeway, but I recall buying my Star Wars Landspeeder at Safeway in New Mexico. It was in the ice cream aisle so I always associate the box with boxed ice cream.

I'm embarrased to say that up until a few moments ago I thought Safeway was an Australian supermarket chain only.

Your reply just sent me googling Scott, lol

Next your going to tell me that Target and Toys'R'Us come form the US too??????

I still really want to get that version of Superman. It's weird that the ad states that Hulk is a centimetre taller than Supes when he is clearly shorter. And although it is an accurate statement, I've never seen the term "multi positional" used for action figures before. Everyone knows that the correct term is "fully articulated".

It's funny, the only place that didn't bite on comic headed supes is the US it seems. He's turned up in Italy, France (in a Superman: The Movie box), Australia and the UK.

The original hand painted prototype is in Toronto, where the line was first requested.

Howdy Cat, I've seen enough boxed and loose ones over the years down here to think that the whole series was released here in the movie boxes, don't have any proof yet though. I thought you'd have a better idea than I would though so that's interesting that you think not. Mmmmmystery!

Brian are there pics of the proto anywhere, or is he locked up in a black hole collection? Would love to check that out :-)

Here is my CH Supes, he was a local pick-up a year or two ago:

It's in the possession of it's original owner, the family who own Parkdale Novelty. They created the 12" heroes and are very proud of it.

I once spoke with one of the sons and he said I could photograph it but we never could make it work time wise. I don't he got why it was so exciting to me. It's probably in this promotional flyer as the boxes are all mock ups:

I have the Reeves head Supes, but really do prefer the look of this one. That's really cool that the family that owns Parkdale still has the prototype. It looks like they really appreciate their history. Do they have prototypes of any others?

Great info Brian, that's a very cool pre-release flyer too!

Amazing that they have kept those protos all these years, and good on them for taking pride in their creations. Wonder what else they have in the family vault :-)

                              Cheers,
