Hey, I didn't shoot anybody. I just did some digging to verify that Wikipedia was incorrect.

While I gathered the Korvette's tests happened in '72, it seems like the nation wide roll out happened March of 1973, at least with the first four. The first time I see mention of Spider-Man is September of that year. So it would appear the solid boxes were around for less than a year.

Oh and the big mystery word is "choose" which is probably a gigantic let down.

Hey, don't kill the messenger.. I couldn't find any other confirmation of the 1974 founding date (or ANY date) even amongst all the bankruptcy documentation, so there was nothing to back it up anyways.

As far as WGSH premiering before Superfriends, all you have to do is open up Ben's book to confirm that. He states that the solid boxes were in test stores Christmas, 1972, and then widely with the new packaging variations during 1973, well before Superfriends premiere in September.

In that Boscov's ad, what that first word listed? I assume the second is Batman, and the last three are Rob, Supes, and Aqua.

Oh and Wikipedia is wrong, the majority of Childworld advertising begins in 1974 but they started opening Summer of 1973, who the hell would miss Christmas?

I got that childworld ad from a 1973 paper and it's not the only one I have to back this up. Here is a Boscov's spread from March of 73, which shows the Superheroes.

Mitch is right, the first four WGSH were out months before the Superfriends. By the fall, the line included Tarzan and the Marvel Superheroes but the first four had been out there for a while.

This ad is from June, two months before Superfriends aired and I have some from March.

I don't think that ad can be from '73. According to Wikipedia, Child World wasn't even founded until 1974, and Superfriends premiered in Sept 1973.

I'm surprised to see this ad, or possibly it was the store, label the figures with the Mego name.

A lot of the other early ads don's identify the companies behind the toys,
or at least just the bigger names back then.

As a kid I was way more aware of Aquaman than Flash and GL. That Filmation show and then SF established him before the other guys.

Aquaman had his own series in the 60s, so he was a big factor in the WGSH due the fact that his show was in that afternoon syndicated package that helped inspire Mego.

and Superfriends, when I think of Aquaman, I think of Superfriends because while I had heard of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Robin before, I never heard of Aquaman until Superfriends.

And Superfriends were running when the WGSH first came out.

Actually Aquaman was a pretty strange choice ahead of Flash and maybe Green Lantern for the first 4.

I agree with Tom, Robin is likely scarce because his case pack outweighed his demand.
