    Thor Belt / Helmet Questions

I have a bare bones Thor coming in the mail. No hammer, helmet or wristbands. The other thing missing is the belt. Wasn't the belt sewn or attached to the costume? If so does anyone have any instructions for making or obtaining a new one? Maybe it will just be easier to find a suit with the belt? The other question is regarding repro parts. I saw that Dr. Mego makes repro parts. Is the repro helmet the shiny silver like the original or cast more like a Conan ax for example? Thanks for any answers. I appreciate it.

The belt is attached only in the back. A beat up suit with a decent belt would be a good bet. Careful, the belt can break easy. Can't help with the repro question, sorry.

Vac-metallizing is a pretty involved process, so I don't think any repro Thor helmets would be shiny silver like the original is.

Doc's Thor helmet is hand casted and painted silver. It does not have the look of an original.

I once had a Thor helmet that was restored. Got it from Jimbutsu years ago. I don't remember if he used some kind of paint or what, but it looked dang close to the original look. You didn't want to handle it too much, but it displayed great.

As Theressa noted, the belt is held in place only by the stitching for the second set of snaps on the suit.

It's pretty easy to make a nice repro of it: Get a yellow beach toy or vinyl-clad 3-ring binder. Using an exacto knife, cut out a belt; following the metal edge of a ruler helps. Make sure to protect your surface underneath with cardboard or something when cutting.

Doc sells repro elastic wrist bands, but he also sells repro Teen Titans gloves in red, yellow, & blue rubber. These make nice wrist bands for characters. You could use a red pair for Thor.

Soften the gloves in hot water & use the knife to cut off the hand portions-leaving only the cuffs While still warm, these can be slipped over the hands onto the figure's wrists.

They fit snugly & look great.

I agree, I had one of Doc's helmets and it is made just like Conan's sword and ax. But it does a great job until you can locate an original. Also, I've used colored electrical tape for some belts and it can be found in most dollar stores. Just find the color you need and cut to fit, you'll always have extra!!

Ok. Orphans! Listen to Ignacio. I know it is fun to wrestle. A nice piledrive to the face... or a punch to the face... but you cannot do it. Because, it is in the Bible not to wrestle your neighbour.
