    Action Jackson O2/scuba tanks

Do all AJ tanks have those melted incisions to hold the straps in place?

Is that a factory method to provide traction for the straps, or the effect of vinyl straps touching the polystyrene tanks?

It's a reaction of the rubber on the plastic.
I have some tanks that have little to no scarring and one that is almost so deep that you'd swear it's all the way through.
I also found out the hard way when I opened my box of POTA figures and I had a rubber lizard in the box. His tail had been touching my action stallion and now he has a few very minor melt marks where the tail had lain. The lizard's body was directly on top of a chair from an Addar model kit and that was severely melted. I also have some slight melting on the barrels of the guns on Lone Ranger & Tonto due to being in the holsters for so long.
Not sure if any environmental factors make it worse or not (such as heat, humidity, etc). I think it's just certain types of plastic and rubber that react to each other.

I seem to run into stuff I buy with melt marks know. Strange all my loose figure/accesaries that were put in a box all there year not a problem of melt marks. Must be the plastic used. Dried out rubber bands yes, joints on my Super Joes and GI Joe with Kung Fu Grip made to be replaced. I pull gun out of holster that had been in storeage from 87-98, no damage to either.

Polyvinyle is a High reactive Plastic, that why its flexiable, Its as not reach it stable state, when it does (over the course of many years ), it strinks and becomes stiff and brittle.
and will Chemically react with certian materials such as Styrene and ABS ,Uvex(clear plastic) Plastics and other vinyls.
The AJ shoulder holster and cowboy holster are made with the same plastic.
and will melt the firearms inserted into them.
what plastics that are immune is polyethylene, ploypro, Sub orthloene, and Co-polymer.
cold temps slow or stop the chemical reaction. certian color pigments speed it up the reaction.
I notices that it happens more to the silver tanks than whites ones.

The worse part is that unless you want to take a chance and try to remove the pipes on the top of the scuba tanks; there is no other way to take the straps off completely. Can slide off the bottom loops and push the top ones up to keep them from sitting in the same spots. That's about it.

I have a copy of AJ Boxed Spy and Western outfits . I wonder if I should remove the pistols from them.

Well Thats up to you, It might not be worth it , if it on the card
if on displayed figures put the pistol in there hands.

TO Krytomater To remove the resperator/tank connector you will have to purchased a razor saw from a hobby shop and gently clamp the tanks down(with rubber padded clamp)
and slowly saw it off at the incertion joint and than super glue them back on
                when your done.
                not hard but time consuming

Yeah I did that on one already. Havent glued it back together yet. Was planning on filling in the melt marks and sanding and painting it a different color.

I wanted to use AJ tanks for custom Black Manta & Mr. Freeze--silver for one, white for the other. So removing the regulator isn't a problem. The melts are just disturbing.

I guess I can sand, patch, & repaint them. Or maybe recast them?--kinda heavy, though.

You could get the resin that has styrofoam pellets in it to reduce the weight.
