Dinah-mite; Fashion doll or Action Figure?

The question I have about Dinah-mite is; was she a fashion doll or an action figure?

On the one hand, she had several sets of outfits, a handsome boyfriend, a cool remote control motorcycle, and a battery powered bicycle, which counts towards being a fashion doll.

After all, hasn't Babs had at least three cars, a number of bicycles, a camper, a beachhouse, and more outfits than Imelda Marcos?

On the other, Dinah was highly articulated; much more so than Babs, who could, until recently, only bend at the waist and knees.

Even with Dinah's fashions, she never managed to capture the kind of fame that Babs did.

I used to have a few Barbie dolls when I was a kid; but she was never as mobile as Dinah, who could be tucked into a bag and taken onto an airplane with little trouble. (Way back in the old days, before they searched you down to your tooth fillings.)

I know that ABMAC has quite a collection of Dinahs (bigger than mine, as I only have three; Straight Hair Dinah, Black Dinah, and Spa Dinah.

Does anyone else have a collection of Dinahs here?

    Any of the vintage outfits?

Any outfits that you made yourself?

I like to think of her as an action figure, since she has many adventure outfits and is designed to take on action. Ant (ABMAC) got me into Dinah ... I have about 25 Dinahs and many of the outfits, as well as some kitbash ones.

Dang! That's a lot of Dinahs!

Do you have the Campus Coed outfit? It was the one with the striped sweater, two tone jeans, and white boots.

That outfit was one of my favorites, until the snap came off. My mom resewed it, but it was given away, along with all of my dolls to either my eldest niece, or my wretched little godcousin.

I have several Dinah outfits, and plenty of Dinahs. Here is a picture of my Dinah shelf, although my blonde army has grown since this was taken:

I've rerooted a few heads for some variety, but haven't put them on bodies yet. The green jumpsuit on the black Dinah in the front is homemade. I'm working on a few others.
Incidentally, I think of Miss Mite as a doll, because that's how she was marketed, to compete with other fashion dolls.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

The whole doll/action figure is really more based on the gender of the viewer a gal almost always calls em as dolls while guys call em action figures in the end we are just spliting hairs By the way nice collection you have there i like the one in the white helmet

I view her more as something in-between.

I don't have any Dinahs, though I will before the year is out. It is unavoidable. It is my destiny. Naturally she's an action fashion figure doll.

Funnily enough, I never even SAW most of those outfits. The only two I ever got were Campus Coed, and Flower Power. I tried to make my own outfits, but my sewing skills back then were very lackluster and shoddy.

If I do start making them again, I will go the paper towel route in making the patterns first.

Drape the towel on the doll, mark appropriate seamlines and darts, transfer to cardstock, mark on fabric, cut out and sew.

                      Sounds easy, doesn't it?

I've made patterns for jumpsuits and jackets using one of my many spare purple jumpsuits.
