    Help me remember, please!

    Mego-scholars please help!
There is an action figure that has haunted my memories for years and I don't know what or who it was. Could some of you experts please help shake the cobwebs loose in this thirty-somethings brain?
This is what I remember, I think...
1.He was the same size as my Megos.
2.His face looked like a bearded Action Jackson or as I use to think "Captain Nemo" aka James Mason.
3.Black, full body suit. I think it had gold piping. Not really sure about that.
4.There was some kind of gold metallic looking, plastic vest that had a light in the center of the chest. I think it formed part of the belt and also went over the head. It had a AA or AAA battery that was contained on the back of the vest and went across the back and shoulders.

Please help me put this tormenting memory to rest!
If you know where to find one...We need to talk.

    Thanks,
    Adam

Yep,Anthony nailed it and gave you a catalog pic and every darn thing.

This forum rules ....as does Super Joe.

Adam,RUN don't walk to get yo' selfa Super Joe Commander and a Darkon...RIGHT NOW!!!
They are awesome (Gor stinks, don't bother...Terron on the other hand, yep you need him too)
The only thing is they are almost always in pieces bc the joints and hands disintegrate as a result of the cheap plastics used during the OPEC oil crisis in the late 70's.Plenty of people restring these w Mego hands and make them beautiful again
(google GI Joe Medic,he's done several for me that turned out awesome)Go find some and get that collection going!Good Luck M

        For the love of God!!!!!!
You have silenced the voices in my head. I am forever in your debt.
Of course I hate you now.
Now he is at the top of my list of things to get before I die and it is all your fault!
At least the voices are different now and I can thank you all for that as well.
Seriously though....You guys rock! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
I didn't even know there was an 8" Joe. Time to start watching the bay.

Oh Crap! I think I remember leaving him tied to a branch in a tree next to the house I grew up in. I wonder if he is still there with my Mego Spiderman? Seems like he went AWOL about the same time.

I heard the stories about these disintegrating but that pic of the carded one is bizarre. I can understand the hands falling apart but shouldn't there be remnants of the hands inside the sealed bubble? They couldn't have just evaporated?
So what kind of Mego hands are used for replacements and do they pop right in the wrist?
Honestly this is one of those figures that I can't recall if I actually had or not. I seem to have memories of it but it may have been a friend's Joe or it may have been that I didn't have him very long and that's why I'm not sure. Either way I've always thought they would be cool to have along with Megos. I'm just a little leery of buying something unfamiliar that I'd have to totally restore.

There's remnants of one of his hands on his upper thigh in the card.
The rest of the pieces are sometimes literally dusty chunks in the bottom of the card. These are relatively easy to restore.

Oh that spot on his left leg?
I thought that was a camera glitch.
                Yeah I can see.
I was looking down by his boots.

I was looking around for more info and I found these photos. They show the deterioration pretty well. Was this more common for the sealed figures due to gassing from the plastic breaking down or is it this bad for the loose figures as well?

That's gonna happen no matter what on those.

Here's a few of my restored ones...
