    Degraying heads question

Has anyone had any luck degraying mego heads with black plastidip? The tutorial shows a picture of red plastidip, but no mention as to whether it should be use versus another color. If you have any other tips to use for the degraying process, please let me know.

I've never paid much attention to the color I've used in the past but sometimes it takes more than one application to get the grey out. I've only done this with a Bo Duke and Mr. F head.

Yes, I worked on an invisible girl a couple of years ago. It took about 5 applications, but she turned out well!

Thanks for the tips. I have a Mr. Fantastic that needs the treatment.

Has anyone tried the spray-on kind that's available? I wonder if that would make a difference.

I agree, I've tried the spray-on on 2 heeads, a Buck Rogers and a Spock with no luck. But it was black not red and the color is supposed to make a difference. So is my problem the color, the spray, or both.

Oh good, this thread is still here. For those of you who have degrayed an Invisible Girl, what did you do about the hair? I have one that is otherwise pretty nice, especially her hair, and I don't want to ruin it. How did you protect the hair?

I think Heath did one a couple of years ago...not positive on the facts though. I think he said he painted on the plasti-dip instead of dipping the head into the plasti-dip. I can tell you I tried the tie the hair back and cover with serran wrap/foil method and it got a bit messy. no matter how air tight you may think it is...it isn't. Got little blobs of plasti in the hair.

I did a Bo Duke head a couple of years back and it came out great after the third dip in the pool, but I noticed the other day when I was going through my collection that his head now has a sticky feel to it? Anybody else had this happen?

As for the spray on plastidip, I havent tried it, but I would have some concern the propellant/thinner mixed into the goo to make it spray through an aerosol tip could actually be detrimental to a Mego head?

                      invisible girl response

Del, when I dipped my invisible girl I fashioned her a "shower cap" made from a ballon stem, then wrapped a little tape around that. It worked great!

A few years ago I degrayed a Mr Fantastic. This was my first attempt and I dont think that I coated it with enough of the Tire shine. It ended up degraying the head , but also pulled a little bit of paint off the head.

My second Attempt was with a Luke Duke. That one was a lot more successful. I honestly will not buy any mego's with gray heads anymore. I rather not deal with it because I found after 2 years it needed to be degrayed again.
