Mego of the Day: Type 2 Robin

Mego of the Day for Friday is the ever popular Robin, whom despite his longevity, never gets eough attention for my liking.Pop into the Mego forum and share with us on Mego Robin. Did you have Robin as a kid? See it? Know of it? Is it in your collection now? On your want list? Do we need pictures of it's packaging in the Museum? Have you ever used it in a custom? Have you customized the character? Why wouldn't this make it into your collection? Did you make funny caption pictures with it? Post pics, tell stories, say whatever, it's mego of the day.

How can you not love Mego Robin? The spit-curls< the smile, the bright colors. The BOOTIES!!! It's hard to calculate how much fun I had with my Mego Robin as a kid. Still one of my favorites, and one of my favorite Robins.

But, I have always wondered about the spit-curls. In the comcs, they were phased out almost 10 years before the Mego figures debuted. Burt Ward had popularized the parted hair look for Robin. The only place Mego could have gotten the spit-curl idea from was the animated opening of the Batman TV series, or (most likely) the Captain Action/Action Boy Robin outfit, which had the spit curls.

Oh, and I don't think anyone can argue, a Type 2 Robin is visually more pleasing than a type 1. A Type 2 body just looks better exposed.

This is hard.. I hated the split curl, didn't like the smirk much nor the collar that never quite came together, but he was still my favorite..! Can't explain it. I also loved the booties. While I was still lamenting not finding the Captain Action Batman and Robin anywhere (being only 9yrs old..), I got both the 'RC Duo' back in '73 when the 'First Four' first rolled out ~

They were glorious.., followed a year later by Spiderman (incidentally, another C/A set I always wanted..). WGSH was IN!

While it's not as functional, the T2 painted mask really makes more sense appearance-wise than the removable, but I didn't like the plastic belt. I thought the cloth one held the vest around his torso better..
      Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

At first I thought the thread said "Earth-2 Robin"

Type-2 Robin was a lot luckier in my house than Type-1 Robin....we went threw about 3 of him because he'd always pop apart.

          Now you're talkin'.

Robin was my first mego EVER. He has that undeniable mego magic. I remember going to the store with my parents, my older brother got Batman, and I got Robin. I couldn't have been more thrilled. It was the removable cowl/mask versions though.

With the Superfriends cartoon, comic books and Adam West, live action show, Batman and Robin were everywhere.

These days, I prefer the type 2 with painted mask. Apes are my favorite mego line, but Robin ranks high as one of my absolute favorite megos, maybe second only to Cornelius. When I acquired one earlier this year (from Theressa) and I opened that package, the feeling I had was as close to feeling like a little kid as I think I will ever feel again.

Not being the comic book afficianados that most of you are, the only exposure I had to Batman & Robin as a child were the the 60s series, the 60's & 70s Filmation toons, and the SuperFriends. In fact, until I came on this board, I never knew there were any other Robins besides Dick Grayson and knew nothing about this whole Nightwing thing. But this is the Robin I know and love. I do believe Mego capitalized on the success of the syndication of the 60s series, and really tried to pattern the figures after that. Their vision of Robin fit the show's intro to a tee, down to that endearing smirk. I'm still not a huge fan of T2s, b/c of those blasted arm hooks that keep popping out of the hole and digging into the side of the figures, even though (thanks to Russ) I do own one.

Holy resurgence, Batman! Being on this board has sparked my long lost memories of the 60s show and toons. Thanks guys!

I bet that little dog knows where he is.

I loved this robin. It is part of why I love megos. That outfit is so cheesy and yet it works. He is one of the few original figures I had left when I started collecting again a couple of years ago. First thing I did was get all his stuff back, for him and batman. Definately a very nostalgic member of my original mego gang. As a kid, I don't think I ever knew about the RM versions of him and bats.

Nah, Max was a total saint.

I wish I still had the photos of about five minutes later when me and my sister put together an Aurora Comic Scenes Robin kit. Robin was "My guy" as a kid, I connected with him, wanted to be him and I'm proud to say that I had every Mego version of him that I ever saw. 8", bendy, 12", Fist Fighter, Comic Action......

Now that's FUNNY you should say that ~ He was always 'My guy' as well..!?!

Sure I connected with Cap and Spidey, but he was THE FIRST. I suspect Burt Ward has a lot to do with that..

Robin was Mego #3 I got as a kid (after Supes and Bats). He was a T1 and one of my all time favorites. I still have him.

Cool pic Brian. Robin was "MY" guy too, and he's Andrew's as well, so the condition continues.

See, DC was right in 1940, kids DO connect with the Boy Wonder.

You know, Mego could have cheaped out on the costume, but they really did him justice. They short-changed Captain America, but Robin got all of his colors done right.

With his legs exposed, I definitely prefer the T-2. Nostalgia may draw some to the T-1, but those knees just seem more human on the later model.
