    Why I collect Megos.

I collect them for many reasons. They were my favorite toy as a kid and when I first got my computer, my brother told me about this site. This site plus ebay equalled the perfect storm for me. Also, I have always loved the concept of Marvel and DC together and I think that and my two boys are what keep me going on customs. Recently, Benjamin's book helped fuel my fire to expand my interest to vehicles and the Tenn Titans. I could go on, but I won't.

It was the only way to get in with this hip crowd

Because they make summer a little bit longer, cereal a little more sugary amd me a little bit less older.

I collect Megos because of this guy. When I was given a 3D version of him as a kid, it was love at first sight. I could love him, and kiss him, and squeeze him...

I collect Megos because 30+ years ago I helped a few astronauts escape from the Apes, the crew of the Enterprise stop the Klingons, the Worlds Greatest Super Heroes save the day, and after all of these years every one of these childhood friends is still with me, some fell in battle and have been repaired with tape or new elastic string, some look as good as new, but I could never leave any behind.

    Why I collect Mego?

Because they were my favorite toys when I was a child. They remind me of summer days in the 70s, with my best friend Brian, thinking up adventures for our Mego heroes. A simpler time, when a picnic table could be a fort and a great backdrop for Megos.

I didn't have many (although I always begged for more) 5 WGSH, 2 POTA, 3 Mad Monsters, but they all were well loved. As I got older, other childhood toys were sold or given away, but not my Megos. Those I packed away and saved. In fact my favorite, Spiderman, remained on my bedroom shelf and has never been packed away.

A few years ago, I decided it was time to try to repair my T1 Aquaman, I did a search on-line and found the Mego Museum. I found out that there were Mego lines that I never knew of and I "met" some really great people that shared my love for these great toys. I couldn't believe how many cool Megos were out there. I still have my original 10 Megos -- which are the center pieces of my collection, but I have added at least 150 Megos to my collection. The joy of getting a new Mego in the mail is indescribable to anyone that doesn't have the Mego love, but to us in the know it is priceless.

Sometimes, I sit and just look at my collection. It never fails to put me in a peaceful state and brings a smile to my face. So, that is why I collect Megos.

They were the first toys I remember getting as a tot. I had the RC Bats and RM Robin. Some of my best Mego memories are of my dad having to restring them after the elastic broke in them. I got back into Mego after joining here for the customs section. So, basically I can blame this place for taking up a shelf in my house. And personally I want to win the tomato soup.

Because as a Kid i could watch superhero cartoons, but not read comics or play with action figures. my parents wouldn't buy them for me. we lived out in the country so to speak and i couldn't walk anywhere and didn't have an allowance. even though i saw adds for Megos in the sunday funnies and wanted Batman robin green arrow and especially the Titans. i never got them. in my 20's i finally got a mr Spock and in my 30's got Dr Who and Leela. But even though i saw a Dr Mego catalog 10 years ago it has only been in the last 3 years i have tried hard to get my favorite Characters...The Teen Titans. yeah start off easy i did! I'm close to having my dream complete. a near complete Wondergirl, a complete Kid Flash and repro suited Speedy and Aqualad. Plus a complete GA,Batman,Aquaman and a suiit needed for Superman. a Custom Flash and a Put together Starman from the JSA. and now i'm trying to customize the other 70's era Titans for myself. with custom boards and boxes. So a Big Thank You to Mego Museum and the other collectors and customizers who have helped make a little boys dreams come true 3.5 decades later.

So why do i collect Mego's..... BECAUSE I CAN NOW !!!!!!

    Because they taste so good.

No, no but seriously... is this thing on? I'll be in the lounge all week.

Because they remind me of what I remember as being a simpler time. Where summers seemed to be endless. Now the years fly by at lighting speed. They capture the likeness of all the characters I grew up loving from Batman to Fonzie. The adventures I had in my imagination remain unsurpassed. Mego figures like these, my twelve inch Joes and Big Jims transport me however briefly back to that time. Back to where I could control the beginning middle and end of every story. The outcome was always within my universe, although I must say I even surprised myself at times with all the twists and turns.

That whole period for me brings an undeniable feeling of joy. I remember the thrill of running home from the street hockey game because Batman was on. I remember not realizing it was campy. To me it was Batman plain and simple.

The Mego figures capture the simplicity and innocence of these times in the unnasuming head sculpts and simple yet perfect costumes.

So for me they are a time machine. A time machine with a single very specific destination. They allow me to travel to and from that place at will.

What more could you want from a toy?
