Mego of the Day: Blackbeard

I was a bit late to know of the Pirates at retail. And I think I first heard of them from the first printing of Bonavita's book, and then the museum in its early stages.

I don't have any Legends figures, but they are all well made and the Pirates have a unique charm and level of detail that really makes feel "premium" to most of Mego's 8" output. I may have to take the plunge someday!

I Dig Pirates in General, but this Line is so nice with the great designs and the colors. Sadly I don't have any. But I know if I had a chance to own them I would in a Heart Beat. I never knew about them until I started visiting The Museum.

I had Long John Silver as a kid, but don't recall being aware of the other three.

In the early days of the Levy list, I traded for a Patch and LJS and that put me on the hunt for the other two.

I added a loose Blackbeard out of Toyshop, and finally completed the set by picking up a box Jean Lafitte, the most difficult one to find, I believe, at Megocon '97 in Toldedo.

Don't remember them as a kid but I'm sure I would have snagged one if I saw it seeing as how I had one of the Fighting Fury guys.

Count me as one that didn't know these were around until I found the Mego Museum. It took me a couple of years to warm up to the Pirates line after I started collecting. Then in 2004 at Megocon, I bought 2 from Roberto and 2 from Ron and within a day went from having none to having all four.

All the legends figures rate highly with me. They've really grown to be the Megos I love best, and of the pirates, BB is my favorite.

Nope never saw or knew abouts them as a kid , Didn't find out about them till i found my way here in DEC 06, If i find a good deal on some i'd gladly add them to my collection, The only pirates i ever saw as a kid were the fighting furies which i only had Capt Pegleg who is one my must buy list, If anyone has a nice loose one for sale let me know

I saw the Pirates at retail one time as a kid. One department store where I regularly bought Megos (Rosbergs in Niagara Falls, Ontario) had them during one of my visits. I had planned on buying a superhero, but when I saw these new guys, I decided to get one of them instead (I knew that it was still a Mego, thus still a cool toy to get ). I picked Long John Silver, because of his cool peg leg and parrot. I had always planned on picking up a Blackbeard (the only other pirate in the group who's name I knew) but the next time I went back to that store they were all gone, and I never saw them again until I was an adult.

So I always knew Mego made pirates, but could only specifically remember Long John Silver and Blackbeard. I knew there were four, but the identities of the other two were unknown to me until I found out around 1990 or so.

I never owned any of the pirates. And like others I didn't even know of their existence until I joined the Museum. I don't think that I was aware of the Waltons when I was I kid. I may have seen them in a Christmas catalog but probably wasn't aware that they were Megos. I had only seen Wizard of OZ, the Super Knights, and Robin Hood lines in one store, TSS (Times Square Stores), back in the early 70s but never owned any of them either.

Mego of the Day is a great idea.

Seems I'm like a lot of others here. Didn't know Mego made anything other than WGSH, Trek, POTA, and Starsky and Hutch before I found the Museum.
