Removable Mask Robin? Help Identify these!

Ok, folks. I mentioned in another thread that I was going to take photos and ask for your opinion. I found out the pirate stuff is part of Matchbox Fighting Furies line from the mid-1970s and will be put up on Ebay.

I believe the Robin is removable mask Robin. I was talking to a friend who is knowledgable about these things, and he asked me some question. He told me I have a type 1 body on this figure. He also mentioned that the costume is almost always see as yellow instead of green. He thought it may be a color fade over time. I believe this may be the case. The costume I have is fading to a yellow, seen under the arms mainly. I guess over time, this will change even more. The speedos on the other hand have not really changed at all. There is a slight yellowing by the sew line going around the top, which could be a start.

Robin was not dressed in this outfit. In fact, he was dressed in the Tarzan jump suit which is shown, along with some of the pirate items. There were no Dick Grayson clothes at all, so I'm assuming this is Robin, since there is a Robin outfit. Robin's head is almost perfect. The paint is perfect and there is a very slight discoloration on his right cheek, which may be dirt that can be cleaned. I don't want to touch it though.

Along with the Robin, I also acquired what looks to be a Zorro mask. The brim on this looks smaller than the Mego, and I've yet to find another Zorro figure with this hat/mask. It is a solid piece. There are no markings as to maker, or made in. The only thing of possible note is that looking at the inside, it looks like the plastic is a small peg. That the hat might actually fit on a doll with a hole in the top of its head to keep it from falling off. The mask itself is slightly small to fit on a Mego doll head. Hat measures 1 1/2 inches across from left to right, brim to brim edges. If anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it.

The Tarzan suit has the clasp intact, but there are holes in the feet. I don't need this and it probably wouldn't sell, so if someone wants it, I'd be willing to just mail it in an envelope to anyone in the US for free. Just PM me.

    So I await your response.

Ok, the link at the bottom goes to my site with the photos.

There are several removeable mask Robins with yellow sleeves, but I do not think all of them have this. This is a debate over whether the sleeves were originally yellow or have since faded to yellow (I believe the fading theory, but I have never seen one up close). The head sounds like it has potential, but a picture would allow us to give a much better opinion.

I will the Zorro remarks to those more knowledgeable with that figure.

you had the clothes up for auction and realized they went to the Robin?

It's definitely a RM Robin minus belt and mask of course... the Pirate stuff is from the Matchbox fighting furies line, all common stuff... have no idea about the mask/hat... When you were describing it, I was thinking it might have been a Remco 9" Phantom hat/mask///

The Zorro hat and mask looks like it came from the Zorro pez.

I'll take it if still available. Got a Nekid Tarzan that needs something to wear.

Ok, Tarzan suit will go to Hotfoot. Zorro Pez? Never even crossed my mind. It is a softer plastic though, so if you have knowledge about whether the Zorro Pez hat/mask is bendable soft plastic, then it is a possibility. The pictures are there on the link at the end of the post. I just created a page for those pics. I think I'll put the Fighting Furies stuff on Ebay with a starting bid of $4.99 and see what happens. My Batman cowl is up to $10 which I guess isn't too bad.

The fact that I didn't know that the doll was Robin was because I never saw a removable mask Robin. Knew about the Batman, but I didn't have alot of the Mego superheroes when I was small. And since he was wearing the Tarzan jumpsuit, and pirate belt and boots, I thought he was another figure. It wasn't until I began looking at this site that I noticed the head looked like Robin. Then I took the Robin outfit and put it on the doll. Actually I'm missing the gloves and boots, besides the belt, mask and logo. I'm considering picking up a normal Robin that has the gloves, belt and boots to make it more complete. Maybe get a repro mask and logo if I can't get a logo. For some reason my camera has been taking terrible pictures. Besides the Pirates stuff, everything comes out bright and blurry.

Actually doing a Google search for Zorro Pez, it definitely is the hat/mask. Good catch.

I agree - Looking at the Robin, it looks like it's in the process of fading to yellow from green, which adds credibility to the fading argument (which I am also a believer in).

I've completely converted to the yellow/green theory. My own RM Robin is in a sold box and he's got green pit stains. Somebody told me a little humidity could speed up the process. I'll let someone else try it though.
