    Warning about figures getting overheated

The air conditioner has gone out in my house and in the interim before I can get it replaced, the temperatures in my house have been in the high 80's and higher.

I came home yesterday to find that my silver age Iron Man from Figure Factory had severely broken down. The head had exploded, and the boots and gloves were wet with a viscous liquid all over them. The suit was also soaked with the same liquid. Iron Man was a total loss.

This Iron Man was one of my all time favorites and I am gutted over its loss, as it is no longer available and I couldn't afford to replace it now anyway.

Iron Man was displayed alongside the FTC Deadman and original Mego Lizard who were unaffected. I don't know if it has to do with the 3d printing involved in the making of the Iron Man, but beware.

I'm so sorry. Wasn't that figure a mix of DM, CTVT, and printed parts--what body was it on?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

It was on an S-type body.

I just hate this happened---it was such a gorgeous figure.

Unfortunately that sounds like it was caused by uncured resin trapped inside a hollow head shell.

I've been looking into resin printing lately and have heard about trapped resin breaking models and leaking out, I guess the heat may have accelerated the process in your case.

The uncured resin is pretty unpleasant stuff and requires some precautions when dealing with it, this link will explain more.

I'm not familiar Figure Factory, but if others have their heads, they might want to check them.

If the head was printed as a solid object, that should be fine, the printer would have cured the resin all the way through.

If the head printed as a hollow shell, it should have been made with small opening somewhere to allow the excess resin to drain out and any residue to be washed out during the post printing cleaning process. The logical place to put a drainage hole would be the base of the neck plug, but it could be anywhere.

If the head printed as a hollow shell with no drainage hole, or you can actually hear liquid in the head when shook, you may want to consider making a small hole somewhere to allow any trapped resin to drain out.
I'm not 100% on this, but based on what I've picked up, I'd try to rinse out the interior with isopropyl alcohol and maybe try to get some ultra-violet light in there to make sure the interior surface was cured properly.
