Is This An AHI Azrak Hamway Wolfman Variant?

Hey everyone! Long story short, I did not see this Wolfman in the excellent article on AHI Monsters from "Toy Ventures" #1. Is it a variant?

Kinda reminds me of Lugosi's makeup in The Ape Man.

^I agree. I'm also wondering if the hair has been repainted.

Thanks for the replies, folks! I hope we can figure this out.

Forget to post this above: it is marked "HONG KONG" on the back of the head (see pics above).

I think it’s an ahi that has been painted, since if you look carefully it’s a wee bit lopsided under the chin, so that tells me it was custom hand painted, but it still looks cool, this of course is JMO.

Thanks for the replies so far.

For those asking in my DMs, I got the figure from eBay around 2005. Was part of a junk lot of 70's toys. Had a few Megos in there and an AHI Frankenstein, too.

The face around the eyes, nose and mouth does not have any brown paint on it. At all. I've looked at the brown paint that is on the head with a magnifying glass and cannot see any trace of a spray sealant or other clear covering. The paint is dry to the touch and will not come off with gentle pressure from a finger nail.

I just cannot figure this out. Maybe someone out there can solve the mystery.

It's definitely an AHI figure, but I'm pretty sure it's a "Post-AHI" version. I've owned a flesh-coloured Frankenstein but who knows? I'm leaning towards a factory screw-up or somebody repainted a very worn head many moons ago.

I'm thinking post AHI. Although it's hard to tell by the picture without seeing it in person, if you look at where there is paint loss you can see the same color as the unpainted face. That leads me to believe the hair paint is factory and not custom.

I was thinking the same thing while looking at the pictures.

                          Thanks for the reply, apez3978!

It's great that Mego Museum has such a wonderful community of collectors who are willing to share their immense knowledge about these items.

I'm not finding out about this figure in order to sell him, BTW. I just wanted to know more about him.

I've always been a fan of ol' Wolfie and this is right up there with my original Aurora as a favorite item.
