You're allowed to bid on ebay before the last couple seconds? Huh!

          Congrats on the score!

Man I was just bidding on this Uhura doll when this Troll came in the last min............Just kidding.

But I'll tell you I lost an auction last night for a General Ursus. I had to go to work before the auction ended. I kinda figured I'd be out bid but this guy upped me by 50 cents. And what really burns me is that he went for $17.50

Ususally he goes for $30 or more. 50 friggan cents

            Lo they do call me.

You just gotta decide what you are really willing to pay for a figure and drop in your bid sometime in the last 5 min. Everything prior to the last minute doesn't matter. It isn't a very cool way to go, but it seems to be the only way to avoid getting hammered over 50cents.

It reminds me of my Helmet head General purchase. This was when he was going for $60-$70 complete. I bid on him at least 4 times and lost by 50 cents or $1 in the last seconds each time. Finally one came up and I was tired of losing, so at the last second I typed in $100, then thought how irritated I would be if I lost by $1 again, so I thought to trump everyone and bid $151.00. Well, turns out someone else had the same exact thought and was just as tired of loosing auctions with that figure, because he bid $150 and I won. I paid it, but it was the most stupid auction move I ever made, but I was still green, hadn't learned patience and thought I was being clever.

So while I can sympathize with your frustration over losing by 50 cents, the idea that the winning bid on a General Ape was $17.50 kinda makes me sick if I think too much about it.

Don't feel too bad Dave, I had my GF place a bid on a Kresge Spiderman a while back, for 1025.00 bucks. Well more than I could afford, although I had it covered if I had won. I have never bid that much on anything. Certain it would go up right away, we were winning for over a week, and I was like, "oh, don't worry it'll go up over the last hour." Nothing. I still had it with 7 seconds left... then the price doubled. I didn't REALLY want to buy it, but would have secretly been happy if I had won. My GF wasn't impressed that a toy went for that much. I tried to get her to bid 4000.00 on the boxed Shark a few weeks later, but she didn't go for it.

I did that for the Thing who i kept losing so when a non zombie NM one poped up i bid $175 max bid ended up paying $80, Crazy yeah but i refused to be out bid agian, And losing by 50 cents to a buck smeans to be the story of my life lately, I think that's why i bad mouth trolls, I know they are not breaking any rules and have every right to bid at the last second but it does tick me off non the less

Bidding at the last second is much more common among collectors than bidding early. All you're really doing by bidding before the last 30 seconds is driving the price up and telling the other people what you are willing to bid so they can beat you.

It's just how the game is played. If bidding at the last second makes one a troll, then about 80% of this board falls in that category.

I've never understood the idea of people getting mad because they lose by "50 cents" everytime. This is a huge eBay fallacy. In honesty, you don't know how much you lost by. The other bidder could have a bid $5-$10-$50-$100 more than you. The truth of the matter is that you lose sometimes. Big deal. Bid what you're prepared to spend and if you lose it means that somebody was willing to spend more. This is the nature of an auction.

And how can bidding at the end of an auction be bad? I don't get it. It's the way the game is played. I only snipe when I bid on eBay. To do otherwise is pretty foolish.......

I'm not so upset that I was outbid. Like I said I had to go to work I figured I'd be outbid. I kinda hoped that because little interest was shown in it I may have got lucky with less then a hour to go.

When I got home in the morning and checked I expected the winning bid to be up to 30 or 40 dollars But $17.50?? For a General Ape? If I could have waited those 45 mins I could have got it for $20 maybe. Obviously Ursus did slip under alot of collectors radar. Not going to have luck like that again for a while.
