New Star Trek Collector Magazine now in Pre-Production...

    Hi everyone.
On the heels of my new "Star Trek The Collectibles" Book that is now on it's way to the printers as we speak and will be released this October, I have an even newer Star Trek project that I am now currently working on.
It is a Star Trek Collectibles Magazine. It will feature articles and stories about the memorabilia and toy collecting side of Star Trek.
So my question to all of you is this: What would some of you as either Star Trek memorabilia collectors or even just Mego collectors like to see in a magazine dedicated specifically to the collecting side of Star Trek? Since this site is dedicated to the Mego line of toys, what ideas and suggestions would some of you have for a feature article on the Mego line, maybe both the vintage Trek Mego's and the new retro cloth line? How about Mego like custom figures and packaging? Custom displays?
There will be no articles on the different ST shows or sneak peaks and spoilers on the new movie. The only focus that will be made to any of the shows and movies in this magazine will be what past, present or future toys have been or are being produced based on them. There will also be no articles or interviews with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Kate Mulgrew, Jolene Blalock, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery, Linda Park, Connor Trinneer and the many other past and/or current Star Trek stars other than maybe a quick blurb on what it was like for them to see themselves made into an action figure or that type of thing maybe LOL
I would actually love to hear from some of the classic cast ie Shatner, Nimoy, Nichols, etc on what they thought of seeing themselves as 8" Mego Trek toys

This will be a magazine specifically focused on the Star Trek collector and for the Star Trek collector, plus many great articles on those companies and the talented people both past and present who created and manufactured the toys and memorabilia you collect and cherish.
Some of the magazine articles currently slated to be in the mag so far will be an interview with Playmates Toys on the new upcoming Star Trek movie toys, an interview with Art Asylum/Diamond Select hopefully about not only their ongoing Trek toys but also their Retro cloth figures with Paul Clark, plus some very cool images of prototypes and other unique and rare Star Trek pieces to name just a few.

Now I realize that asking a question like what would you like to see in this magazine is a rather wide open and dangerously generalistic question to ask the masses, but hopefully we won't have people all over the map with what they would like to see. If you have something you would like to see, please tell me exactly what it is and why. Just don't say "Mego action figures". Try to be as specific as you can to which exact ones and also please explain why.
I would also like to hear from other large collectors either Star Trek and or Mego specific and possibly do a story about you and your collection. Don't be shy, let me know.
If you don't want everyone else to know or at least know this early on, just PM or e-mail me.
Remember, this magazine is after all not only for the Star Trek fans and memorabilia collectors but is also about you, the Star Trek fan and memorabilia collector whether you collect Star Trek across the board or just specific pieces/manufacturers like Mego for example.
So, having said all that, please let me know what you would like to see in this new exciting Star Trek Collector magazine

    Thanks

    Steve

    Congratulations! This sounds great!!!

I would like to see in depth, behind the scenes stuff regarding the manufacturers of Trek collectibles. Concept to market type stuff.

I would also like to see Paramounts X-file of Trek based stuff they wouldnt license....bet theres some doozies in there.

It would also be neat to see an article on the licensing branch of Paramount itself (from its days as Viacom to today). I would like to know how they perceive Trek in the marketplace today, versus a couple of years ago when they pretty much kiboshed any and all Trek merchandising. Maybe go back to stories from the early days of merchandising (Mego,Azrak, Hasbro, etc.) up through Playmates, Art Asylum/Diamond/ EMCE.

I think a customs page is a necessity too. Not just action figures, but some of the other great stuff thats being done.(Trek Bridge and the massive docking bay project featured here at the Museum for example)

    Hope this helps?

      Hi Steve,
I think that a breakdown similar to the site here would be nice. If you are not running your features by show/movie titles, then something like classic toys/merchandise, new releases, figures, ships, clothing, etc. could keep it organized. Also, if this is going to be a monthly, something like what Consumer Reports does on their final page - a running index for the year of what issue/month they've run an article on a certain piece of merchandise would be neat.

Something that hasn't been mentioned, yet, in way of collectibles would be all of the books and the various cover art the editions have had over the years.

      It's all good!

I remember watching Garrett Wang on a QVC a few years back, telling a story about how some of his friends were teasing him and doing very bad things to his action figure (he demonstrated it a bit with some hand gestures..). All in good fun though, he seemed to have been enjoying it.

I would be very interested in talking to someone here at Mego Museum about having some of the great vintage Mego articles and interviews and any Star Trek Mego images from the past that can be used in an exciting article in the magazine.
Thanks and please let me know

PCofmisfittoys, you have some great ideas there.
Would you be willing to write any of the articles and provide the needed information and related images?

How about some plans or reference pics for customisers....or to compare the toys with their onscreen counterparts...i.e. tricorders, phasers etc ( one subject per issue with pics of various toy versions alongside referance pics of the real thing)?

Have a featured collector each month. . .doesn't have to be a super collection. For example if you had someone from this board ever month (just as an example), then you would get the business of a lot of folk from here. . .to see their buds in print. . .expand that out to a few other boards and interest groups. . .an you have repeat business from groups of folks. . .and opens it up to everyone, to show their stuff . . . great collections or small.
