    1976 Mego TV Promotion Schedule!

Olmo Giovannini sent in this wonderful piece of Mego history today for the Megomuseum ad archive today, the advertising Budget.

As you can see the really big money was on the Mego Star Trek Line with almost five times the budget that than the World's Greatest Superheroes. I don't ever recall seeing a commerical for the One Million BC line however...

Eight point three million bought a lof quality airtime across the country in 1976.

It's a shame this doesn't list the cartoons Mego advertised on but the local markets is cool too.Click here to see a listing of cartoons with commercials from 1977.

World's Greatest Superheroes commercials ran year round according to this chart, whereas most of the other lines such as The Waltons would only see advertising in the fall/winter months..

You won't want to miss the Megomuseum this Friday, we'll be unveiling a really big thing. Trust me on this, it's very cool.

Notice the block of WOZ in the Spring...The movie was shown around Easter time every year on CBS, I think.

            Good call, Scott.

I'm really surprised how much overlap they had between national spots and local spots. With the local markets listed, they were getting a large percentage penetration. It would seem almost cheaper to just buy network ads and hit the entire nation. Then again, I'm not sure of the cost difference back inthe 70's. Maybe netowrk ads were so much more expensive that buying a ton of individual markets made sense. I guess back when the networks regularly reached 40, 50, 60% of the audience with one show, they charged a lot more than the local stations.

It really gives some insight into the decisions made at Mego. I realize Trek had a banner year in '75, but I still think Mego should have pushed WGSH's new wave a bit more strongly. Maybe WGSH sold so strongly, they just figured the line didn't need the support.

Wow! Star Trek had a big ole budget! And seeing that Saturday line-up was cool. And Friday sounds like it's gonna be fun!
