Everything we know about Mego’s plans for Planet of the Apes
Definitely hoping for Taylor and Nova, and my favorite ape of all, Virgil. I am wondering if we might get multiple versions of the main apes, classic Mego and more screen accurate (like they did with the Romulan). I'm sure Mego would love to do the off colored model versions of the apes (hello, re-use!), but that seems to be up to the Mouse. But I would point out that Disney has no problem with Hasbro doing Kenner figure colored versions of Star Wars black characters (they just announced three more for Amazon), so something like blue Zaius is not at all farfetched.
We also need Eric Braeden and the Ape-onauts from Escape From the Planet of the Apes.
As cool as it'd be to have them make Dr. Hasslein, I wouldn't hold my breath for that one-Eric Braeden isn't happy with "Escape". He's rather embarrassed that he did a Sci-Fi film, so it's doubtful he'd give his permission for them to use his likeness...
I know of a guy who was going to interview Eric for a fan publication, and he backed out last minute due to not being happy with his association with "Apes"/Sci-Fi.
We'll have to lobby Mego to make "Rat Patrol" or "The Young and The Restless" figures to get a figure of Eric.
Well, that's predictable for sure, but maybe Mego can do something with the outfits (changes of color/textures/designs/accessories) to make them more screen accurate. That would be a worthy change to encourage more sales.
I hope they do a long coat Zaius... "Beneath" Zaius would be great, but I doubt they'd want to deal with the hieroglyphics... General Ursus would be cool-I'd even settle for them doing a tunic with the rectangles pressed into the vinyl.
I'd rather see a continuation what NECA and SUPER7 has done with the license; striking, fun original artwork that renders the packaging a new/interesting/valuable part of the whole package. Let artists and designers do there job.
